Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 28, 2008 12:46 am Hello everyone,
I'm just in the process of deciding the configeration of my kitchen cupboards and at the moment I've got 2 pot drawers on both side of the free standing stove. I'm thinking now that i want one side to have 2 pot drawers while the other side has 3 drawers. But I'm worried that it might look weird because it's not uniform. What does everyone else think? What has everyone done? Thanks Re: Pot drawers question 2Jul 28, 2008 2:43 am two pot drawers in our kitchen.
uniform is nice particularly when you think about the vertical and horizontal lines. I only thought about this once our kitchen had been installed and was glad we went with the cabinet makers advice. plot it out on paper and see what it looks like. Re: Pot drawers question 3Jul 28, 2008 8:09 am Also, don't forget your utensil drawer.
A couple of friends have 3 drawers in the one unit. THe top drawer is for wooden spoons, ladles, masher, etc....THe bottom 2 are for the pots. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Pot drawers question 4Jul 28, 2008 8:14 am Yes, definitely three, one skinny for utensils and two bigger ones for pots. I had a set in the old kitchen (COMING OUT THIS WEEK!!!!! ). They are too deep to find all you need and if you do not load them to full capacity you have lost space.
I am having the same as you a 3 drawer unit each side if the free standing Lofra stove. Maggie Re: Pot drawers question 5Jul 28, 2008 8:23 am We had a 2 drawer pot drawer in our old house and originally I was set to do the same but ended up leaving it as the standard 3 drawer version. When I thought about it I realised that with 2 drawers deep i had a lot of pots stacked on top of each other and it was always a pain to get to those underneath. Now I'm wishing I had 2 x the 3 pot drawer configurations.
In my last house my smaller utensils ( knives etc) drawers were slightly modified as well. The top drawer for knives and forks was slightly slimmer and the bottom drawer slightly deeper and the 2 middle drawers were the same depth . This was really practical as you don't need a super deep drawer for knives and forks but having a slightly deeper drawer was handy for kitchen wraps, pot holders and mats. This was something the builder did or at least his cabinet maker did. I don't remember asking for it. I hadn't bothered to ask for it this time around and again I'm beginning to wish I had. Some one I work with has recently built and she had 2/3's of her cupboards made as drawers. I wasn't too sure about this option but she said it's terrific. I can imagine she'd have a lot less wasted space, She has dinner sets in separate drawers, cups and mugs in another etc. Re: Pot drawers question 6Jul 28, 2008 10:47 am I'm having 12 pot drawers.
Each side of our cooker has a 800mm bank of three and a 700mm bank of three on the other side of the 800mm. Top one is shallow with two deep ones underneath. Top ones will be for utensils and one of the ones next to the cooker will be a dedicated spice drawer. I also put a bank of 600mm wide drawers in the island bench. And pot drawers in the laundry that will be for dirty clothes, one for darks and one for lights. I went drawer mad. They are worth every penny IMO as cupboards are bloody useless. I would suggest to upgrade as many cupboards to drawers as your budget will allow. We are even having super shallow drawer for school notices, etc. Like I said I went mad. Jo Wonderland, can you refresh my memory and tell me which house you're building? I forgot. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Pot drawers question 7Jul 28, 2008 11:23 am Thanks guys for your response. I think I will keep it at both 3 drawers. The 3 drawers that M was going to give were all same sized drawers. I will have to ask them whether they can make the top one smaller than the bottom 2.
Jo, I am building the Mercer with M3tr!con. I really really wanted to put drawers in my island bench also but the kitchen is quite a small gallery kitchen, therefore not much cupboard/drawer space. I want to move my sink from in the middle of the island to the side so it gives me more workspace bench. I wish i could have heaps and heaps of drawers as I also love drawers Jo. Re: Pot drawers question 8Jul 28, 2008 11:32 am Wonderland, the Mercer that's right!
I'm with M and your kitchen is almost the same as mine!!! They can do whatever size drawers you want. One really shallow, medium then deep. If your Studio 501 girl says no go higher. Just figure out what you want and get it. We really mucked around and changed the kitchen and walk in pantry and we ended up having an appointment with Tamara (Studio 501 boss) after our normal appointment and she was absolutely fantastic!! Our main sink, dishwasher and microwave is now in the pantry with prep sinks on the island. Under the main sink we have this open 200mm wide cabinet that will have a slide out tea towel rack attached to it. It's open so they'll dry. That's not in any of the displays but they still do it. If you've moved your sink you should be able to fit drawers. Go to as many displays as possible from all builders, take pics of the configurations you like and they'll work it out for you. As long as you're fitting in with the basic measuremnts (length of island etc) the sky is your limit. You don't have to go with the standard cupboard options. yes the Mercer kitchen is pretty much the same as the grandview kitchen. I would love to do what you did and put the sink, dishwasher into the pantry. But i dont think we will have enough money to do so. how much did it cost you to do that? We are only at the early stages at the moment, havent even gone to the PC stage yet. Just like to think ahead, and this website tends to make people think ahead. I went to Studio 501 for a tour the other day and was told that M do not do the salad bowl over counter sinks!! I was gutted!! I've had my heart set on getting one of them. But she told me that M might still do it, I will just have to ask when i see the estimator. At least I know that i can get the 3 drawer of different sizing. I thought it might look weird with one side being 3 drawers and the other side being 2 drawers. Re: Pot drawers question 10Jul 28, 2008 12:01 pm Wonderland, as you are only in early stages have you seen the new M home the Fairhaven?
We tossed up between the Mercer and Grandview in the end and the Fairhaven is like the Mercer!! But I actually prefer the Fairhaven to the Mercer. It's not on display anywhere but it is exactly the same as the Mercer but different master and much bigger pantry. Check it out on the website and let me know what you think. I love it. No I havent seen the Fairhaven, just had a look then on their website. It is pretty much the same as the Mercer. I still quite like the Mercer better, mainly because I don't like those WIR where it's behind the bed, makes the room look heaps smaller. Also, with the Mercer, we are going for the grand alfresco, where as the Fairhaven only has a verandah. Thanks for letting me know tho. What was the price of the Fairhaven? What made you decide to opt for the grandview? When do you start building? Cheers Re: Pot drawers question 12Jul 28, 2008 12:20 pm Tentative date of September. Grandview because we weren't overly fussed about a big master bedroom and this space in the Mercer becomes a playroom in the Grandview if you know what I mean. And I like the master out the back with alfresco access. And laundry out near kitchen rather than near minor bedrooms. Especially the big massive pantry!!!!
I'm building with my mum and with the master and laundry out theb abck near the main living areas, if mobility ever becomes an issue for her, the home becomes very easy for her to navigate and still be very independant. Just thinking ahead I guess. I know what you mean about those behind bed wardrobes, they are something you either love or hate. I still like the Mercer though, I like all the plans that have the rear central alfresco! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Pot drawers question 13Jul 28, 2008 12:30 pm Yes I also love the big pantry of the grandview!!
I also think that the big master room is abit of a waste of space, there is alot of dead space there. But my partner loves it. Difference of taste and preference, we actually dont like the master at the back because we dont like out bedroom to be seen when we are entertaining, therefore i would much prefer the master at the front. Altho, i ultimately would rather have the master in the middle of the house as i dont like to be at the front either, i get paranoid! Hopefully the build starts on time, fingers crossed for you Jo. Hello I'm remodeling my kitchen and evaluating ideas. We are in the last stages of drawing and I am now considering putting a pot filler tap in above the hob. Has anyone… 0 1373 Like pulse said, you can fit drawers however because of the placement of the sink there isn't much depth so you would have to have cut outs for the waste pipes. It all… 2 1301 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9960 |
