Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 11, 2006 8:13 pm Hi again- second post and second question
I have solid wood cabinets in great condition that need a facelift. My sister suggested taking the cabinet doors to a panel beater and getting them to spray paint them with a gloss paint. No clues as to what this costs or whether I am better to get new doors made (they are not standard size) Any clue as to approx costs? Re: Getting cabinets repainted 2Nov 11, 2006 11:54 pm Not sure on costs but I guess it would be expensive. The panel beaters would have to sand back the entire door(s) to get rid of every bit of grease and oil so the new paint will stick.
Also, you will have to remove all of the vertical panels (end panels) in your kitchen as well so they can be painted too. Sometimes these panels cannot be removed without pulling apart your existing cabinetry. For metal??? little poppett, why don’t you just paint them yourself, or get a painter in to do it. It would be cheaper. This is done all the time, I have had many clients do the same thing the doors come up great. And yes it does give them new life; you can transform your whole kitchen just by painting the timber doors and sides. For metal???) No, they will purchase the appropriate paint for the job (acid catylized or 2 pack polyurethane) or you can supply it for them. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 6642 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
