Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 11, 2016 10:55 pm Before I go out and get some quotes I was hoping for a bit of guidance from you guys on possible options for getting stone benchtops in my kitchen. I've attached a pic below of what the kitchen currently looks like. The benchtops are just gloss white laminate, and while they're perfectly fine I want the slightly upmarket feel of stone. I want to keep everything the same (colour, waterfall edges on island), just convert it to stone. What will be the most cost-effective approach? I don't have preference between natural or engineered stone, just as long as it's a nice white colour. Are those stone overlays that make use of the existing benchtops any good? Cheers for any advice you can offer. Seems like an expensive excersice to change a white square edge for a white square edge? My advice is to spend that money on an area that will actually add value. Your looking at around 4-5k or more for the stone/waterfalls depending on which colour you go for you then also need a plumber and electrician to do a disconnect and reconnect and you might also be up for a new splashback if it gets damaged when the old top comes out. Depending on the colour you choose I would say minimum you are looking at is around 6k but it could be more! I couldn't tell from a picture that that isn't a stone benchtop . Good luck with the changes, I have no knowledge of those things so can't help. Re: Advice on changing from laminate bechtops to stone 6Mar 21, 2016 1:49 am Granite transformations could still damage splash back unfortunately. Sorry why again do you want to change the bench? You said in your op you want an upmarket feel, but from the pic you haVE that already. We have got stone at the place we are currently renting and I'm not that keen. . . . it's noisy and unforgiving of cups and glasses if you are a little bit clumsy.
