Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 06, 2016 4:22 pm Hi everyone, I'm just looking at my kitchen design, and trying to decide where to put my wall/door to the pantry.. Basically, as per the pictures below, I can leave the right end of the bench open, or close it off with a wall to make it more like the left side... Does anyone have any thoughts please? Or if there's something completely different I've missed? Help please :) 2Feb 06, 2016 5:33 pm Hi Justalittlebithippy, Nice Kitchen! So just checking your question again. You want to decide the location of your pantry door/nib wall? Just my opinion but I think it will look better with the side nib walls wrapped around the kitchen cabinets because it creates nice symmetrical design as in pic 2 or 3. In regards to wall oven vs under bench oven ~ Are you trying to achieve the most bench space? I do love the idea of wall ovens, and do you need 2 ovens? The problem with wall ovens is utilising the cabinet space above (basically nothing you want to get to in a hurry) and below maybe a pot drawer, depending on the available dimensions. Having a second look at the design though in Pic 2, you would have a nice run of cupboards for cooking pans/pots ect. Where as Pic 3 with the oven in the middle there’s less storage. You would want to make sure you have at least a 600w cabinet either side of the oven. Also I couldn’t see the fridge recess? Where were you planning on putting the fridge? Just my 2 cents, feel free to ask any more questions Melinda McQueen Which kitchen? Help please :) 3Feb 06, 2016 7:19 pm I'm a fan of the 900m full oven and cook top with both walls either side symmetrical and a nice big splash back behind..to me it looks more up to date and personally I think it's more practical...love that WIP Re: Which kitchen? Help please :) 6Feb 06, 2016 9:10 pm Oops, yes, I got lazy about putting the fridge recess in... My sketchup skills are not up to scratch... The fridge will be in the wall on the pantry side, about level with the island bench, if that makes sense.. Thanks for your input guys yes, I am looking to decide the nib wall. I think I prefer the look of it closed off, but then I was thinking maybe open is more useful/spacious? To be honest, the 2 ovens vs 1 big one is just what the two builders I'm deciding between provide. I think I prefer the 2 ovens, it seems more practical to me, as you can have 2 different temperatures, and less energy to heat a smaller oven when only one is needed... And I do like the extra storage, as I probably wouldn't use the back bench nearly as much as the island bench.. Yes, thank you deejay, I was thinking about moving the sink, I think it will give me more practical bench space Re: Which kitchen? Help please :) 8Feb 07, 2016 10:28 am While I like the look of a large range style floor cooker like the 900mm oven you show, a wall oven is much better on your back especially if you do a lot of cooking/baking/entertaining. Two as you say is even better. Stewie Re: Which kitchen? Help please :) 9Mar 08, 2016 11:05 pm if you buy any quality German ovens, they should be in a tall cabinet. The reason for it is that the digital displays can be read and operated much better as they are meant to be in a tall cabinet. If there were the space, all ovens would be best at the same height and the top shelf of the oven not above your shoulders. If money is not an issue I would recommend and pyrolytic oven with microwave and a second oven with steam function (don't have pyrolyse). brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 6109 I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 13045 Anthony Firstly, wow you have put a lot of work into your list of questions! Great job and they are mostly valid questions that a builder should be able to answer. As… 14 9098 |
