Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 06, 2016 11:22 pm Hey guys! So I need a little help understanding why there is a wooden board currently replacing my stone benchtop while it's still in the making. I've searched for plenty of others that are at my stage and they've never gotten a replacement of their benches. Just a smack bang cabinets boom and on goes the benchtop. I would have thought it was on there because they needed a counter to work on or something but then I thought again to myself why would they even bother cutting out the stove area and nailing down the wooden board to the island benchtop??? Don't tell me they're going to wrap the stone benchtop around it because that is not on!!! My benchtop is 20mm square edge Caesarstone stone benchtop in Shale. I am installing a double undermount sink where the window is but it seems like it's only been outlined. Hasn't been cut out like the stove area has. I don't want to ask my supervisor as I know that the kitchen is not finished yet and I just need to be patient but I just want to ease my mind and hope it's not being wrapped around THAT thing. Re: Wooden board placed until stone benchtop arrives 4Jan 07, 2016 12:02 pm Hi Annie91, they are possibly the templates done by the installer for the stone mason to make your stone tops from. Most stone masons do their own and take them away to the factory to ensure your bench tops fit perfectly. But some do have the cabinet installer do them once they have installed the cabinets, for the stone mason to come and collect. As I say, templates are made (usually out of board) and include the cut outs where your sink and cooktop are going, to ensure a perfect fit. If you are having 20mm Caesarstone I doubt very much that it will be wrapped around. Havent seen templates used in years and years! If they have cut out a hole for the sink then my thinking is that they have forgotten your top is only 20mm and this is the substrate/build up for a thicker 40mm top. 40mm stone is only 40mm at the front edge and a few companys put solid packing under.
