Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 04, 2015 8:56 pm Before I order from the US via a mail forwarding service, and risk my husband divorcing me.... wanted to check if anyone had come across handles like this in Oz. The closest I have found is these - but still in the US (though cheaper). If anyone has seen anything over here - my marriage would appreciate it Re: cupboard handles / drawer pulls 2Nov 07, 2015 5:35 pm Don't do it! They are face fix handles. If you are fixing them to MDF doors you may have trouble in the future! You are better off finding a similar handle that is screwed from behind! Hubs hasn't mentioned anything about that, but then he is at the point that his eyes are glazed over and he's just nodding and agreeing, don't think he's had a real good look at the pics and thought that far ahead Re: cupboard handles / drawer pulls 4Nov 10, 2015 1:45 pm Yep, 90% of kitchen doors these days are an MDF core. Front fix screws handles eventually pull out. I don't give any warranty on a front fix handle, its buyer beware! Solves that pull out problem. Sent from an elegant mobile device using Tapatalk. I hadn't thought of that Actually yes I had and its not the best idea! The thread of the screw sticks out and looks terriable! I run a kitchen company and wouldn't put my name to that! Also most kitchen company's wouldn't be happy messing around doing this. Far better to find these handles as rear fix then the installer will have the screws ready to go, they wont charge extra to fit them and it will look heaps better!!! Just need the right length (or cut to the right length) screws and a nice cap nut. Or could do it the other way and machine screw from the back with a threaded insert on the front. My point is there are plenty of ways of using those handles that would look nice and not pull through. You industry types need to look at other solutions elsewhere for your customers and not just stick to what you "know". I know lots of things but I still learn new things every day. My forum thread is at viewtopic.php?t=74944 Re: cupboard handles / drawer pulls 8Nov 10, 2015 5:51 pm I totally agree but no kitchen company will do it! So much easier just buying a rear fix handle! You can get the exactly the same looking handle, it even has a fake screw on the front to make it look front fix. Then you don't have to mess around with nuts, washers caps and cutting bolts down. Sure if your fitting the handles yourself and you have time to waste then go for it, BUT most people have the kitchen company fit them! My forum thread is at viewtopic.php?t=74944 Sorry mate but you clearly have no idea! You wouldn't believe the detail I go to when its required. What you are talking about takes time and messing around which costs the customer. In our industry when you stray from standard it costs. Normally I order the handles and the screw we carry in our site box fit all rear fix handles, it takes no more than 10minutes for me to fit handles to a kitchen. If I had to do what you are talking about its a special trip to the bolt shop and fitting the handles would take around an hour messing around with bolts, nuts, washers and caps. This all is charged back to the customer. I am just saying there is a far easier way! Why take the hard road if the easy/normal road gets you there quicker and with the same quality and look! Find the OP something that is rear fix that matches the lol they want and post it. Of course custom costs. Some are willing some are not. You don't seem to be willing and that's ok. I would go elsewhere or do it my self, again this is a willingness. The OP wants to know if something similar is available in Oz. is it? Your opinion is cool and quite right, if you just use those handles and only fix from the front they will probably eventually pull through. I am saying there is another way, and that this may not be for everyone. If I really wanted those I would have them and figure out a way to make them work with longevity. That way is above. PS Spot, I like them they are pretty cool. In my experience you will not find that kind or "rich" look in Australia, simple patterns and textures are generally preferred here. I spoke to him about the screws pulling through and he agreed, but did mention the same about nuts etc and machining down the screw or whatever, and would be prepared to do it if I was desperate for that handle, but I'm sure his preference would obviously be not to if its avoidable. I'm still on the hunt, haven't see anything else I like as much yet, but don't mind the look of these, again restoration hardware, Grrrrr, but might be easier to find something similar. There are 1000s and 1000s of handles available, I don't have the time to look for them. But there will be something close. I was simply giving the OP some very sound advice that until I mentioned it hadn't been considered! I totally understand and get what you are talking about but not many people are prepared to go to that effort and most kitchen companies would charge a premium to do it. I've got my heart set on them and am having the same trouble as you! If you did get them could you please tell me who through, and how much? Or if you found ones similar in Oz what were they and through who?? If you could help I'd be much appreciated!!
