Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 19, 2015 12:41 pm So i got my drawings back for adding pot drawers into my kitchen. 3 pot drawers, bottom at 600mm high, 300mm high for each of the remaining 2 pot drawers above it. The thing that worries me is theyve.converted two standard laminate cupboard doors to the drawer. So they're just around/over 1m in length. I know it'll be on drawer wheels. But worried will the size of these drawers, once full physically result in maintenance issues? especially at that length, once you fill it up with pots or stack plates surely this will weigh a heap. Any thoughts? Or no issues at all? Only time I've come across something comparable was big *** pot drawers in q communal ski lodge kitchen in mt buller. They seemed to work ok but i assume would be more better designed or cost more than what a project.builder would include?? I do not think they can convert only 1 cupboard door length wise to drawers, ill check but i believe they had to do both. Re: 1m wide pot drawers - issues? 2Nov 19, 2015 3:50 pm "drawer wheels"??? I build drawers 1000mm wide all the time and have never had a come back. All my hardware is top of the range Blum and comes with a lifetime warranty. Its like everything pay peanuts get monkeys. What brand and model of runners are you using?? Basically what allows you to pull the drawer out and at the time 'drawer wheels' came to mind. I'm not doing it. It's a project builder. I believe coastline cabinets. So size wise provided materials are good there is no structurally unadvisable reason to avoid 1m wide drawers Re: 1m wide pot drawers - issues? 4Nov 19, 2015 9:17 pm As CEK has said its all down to the drawer system used. Good quality runners are rated to 60kg or more. That's a lot of weight. Just ask what hardware they are using and what guarantee they give. Any quality cabinet maker should be giving you hardware that is fit for purpose. I have seen many cheap kitchen companys install cheap nasty runners/hardware but still claim they are good quality! Stewie Re: 1m wide pot drawers - issues? 7Nov 26, 2015 12:10 am Builder came back and said they told them the 1m cabinets are fine as they have larger runners. 70kg runners to handle the larger size. No mention of hardware brand or assurances but obviously they're gonna say the quality.is fine. If they've quoted theblarge runners handle 70kg based on the weight can you draw parallels that the runners must be decent quality to withhold that much weight on the 1 m wide drawers?? Re: 1m wide pot drawers - issues? 8Nov 26, 2015 12:16 am If so then I'll reply to the builder and accept the pot drawers at the 1m wide width. As Stewie said i guess with the big pots they do take up proportionately more room over weight which should lessen my issues. Other than weight im therefore assuming the size itself won't affect things from a maintenance or longevity of product vs a smaller dimension cabinetry? Re: 1m wide pot drawers - issues? 9Nov 26, 2015 12:59 am We had some large drawers in out previous kitchen and I loved them. They were Blum and smooth as silk. The o ly downside is in a small space, you need to ask people standing next to you to move so you can open them.
