Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Advice on renovating this kitchen **UPDATED pics on pg 3** 21Jul 17, 2008 9:41 am I had a friend who painted their cupboards 6 years ago, very fiddly job, but they still look great
Its a good compromise, and I agree with Steve a can of spraypaint will do the job. I'm not too sure that dark blinds over the window then light ones over the sliding door will match - maybe go the same colour. Re the roller door - paint it white. With what sort of paint? Won't the paint clog in the seams? There's this stuff http://www.whiteknightpaints.com.au/pro ... ate-paint# .....I've never used it, any forum members have experience with it? mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Advice on renovating this kitchen **UPDATED pics on pg 3** 23Jul 17, 2008 10:00 am Quote: AND this blue roller door, no idea what I can do with this, nothing probably..? Besides replacing obviously.. any idea of costs for that? what is behind the roller door? I presume it is on a benchtop with the microwave behind it? I agree that the blue bits do not seem to match with the general beige/apricot colour scheme of the kitchen. Anyway do you need to replace this door? If you don't mind your microwave or appliances being visible on the benchtop could you just remove this and leave the bench space open? Interestingly, the cupboard pics in your second photo do look more orange thant the terracotta of first pic, I wonder if first pic has been 'colour-doctored' by the real estate agent to show a more neutral colour?? Re: Advice on renovating this kitchen **UPDATED pics on pg 3** 24Jul 17, 2008 12:00 pm Thanks to-do-list, it's my plan to use the white knight stuff, seems to be recommended by a few people and is not too expensive.
Helyn the roller door hides appliances like the toaster, blender etc, and I really like it, so I'll try first to remove it and paint with very light coats of spray paint, then reinstall, and see how we go. If I stuff it up I can just leave it off. Yes it's an odd orange/pink/apricot colour, in a fairly new kitchen. The very nicely cared for carpet is in great condition, but also in a yuk orangey/pink hue. The carpet goes through the whole house, even the bathroom and toilet! The tiles in the shower are also a pinky colour and the walls are white tiles with pink motifs. Paula, that's good to know, thanks! Basically once we have more money and growing children etc (none yet) we will probably renovate properly and maybe add an extension, but for now I just want to make it livable. Good point about the blinds, I'll have to see what works. Here are examples of what I'm thinking: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I was thinking roman blinds on the window could work also, just not sure if it's wise having fabric to get wet and steamy whilst cooking/washing up.. I guess it wouldn't really be an issue though, lots of people have normal curtains in the kitchen. Re: Advice on renovating this kitchen **UPDATED pics on pg 3** 25Jul 17, 2008 12:06 pm Mikaela,
If your carpet is in good condition but just a horrible colour, depending on what it's made of I think it can be dyed or something. I'm sure I read something about it somewhere on the forum. Ash would know but he's missing at the moment. Michelle might know. I'll try to find what the hell it is I'm talking about! It's just you mentioned a tight budget so I thought this could be an option. And carpet in the toilet and bathroom?? WTF?? Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. He is the carpet expert so wait for him to get back for answers to dyeing carpets. (not sure where he is but if your'e not moving in for 6 weeks, he can let you know before then) Re: Advice on renovating this kitchen **UPDATED pics on pg 3** 27Jul 17, 2008 4:00 pm Helyn Quote: And carpet in the toilet and bathroom?? WTF?? Even Ash would draw the line at that!! I doubt it, he suggested it for the floor of a shower once I'm fairly sure the paint my friends used was the stuff Mike put the link in for - as I said it still looks great 6 years on. A mum from Kinda had her carpet dyed - I think its best to dye it darker than what you have. Jo I supplied some secondhand carpet to a customer for his under main roof garage He told me it was to muffel the noise from his car I would also draw the line at putting it in the bathroom thou. Had a look at the limited range in Magnet Mart today just to get a bit of an idea to costs for that also...
I've looked into the carpet dying and I think it could definitely be a goer! Only thing that puts me off is some people have said it rubs off on white socks etc, but apparently this is a short lived problem and vacuuming lots helps. Thanks Sharee, for the life of me I cant remember what they are called. I'll bug Jackie when she gets home, she'll know, she knows all!
