Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 11, 2008 11:16 pm Hi everyone,
i am a new user to this forum and i find the information here extremely helpful. So, first of all hats off to all the people who extend a helping hand for each other. I am starting to build a house with PD and i still have to go for my colour selections. i have chosen the timber flooring in white chestnut oak colour. (picture attached). the actual colour of flooring is one shade darker than the picture. Now my biggest problem is that i am unable to select colour for upper and lower cupboards in the kitchen. I plan to have Ice white QQ ceasar stone benchtop and glass splashback in purple or red box. Can anyone help with the ideas for upper and lower cupboards. i know white will look good but i am not a white person at all, and this the reason i cant decide on these colours. PD offers to choose clolours from either formica or laminex range. So please please please advise what to do next. Also if someone has any suggestions with different colour to upper and lower cupboards that will be really helpful as well. Looking forward to have your comments. Good job on posting photos Its hard to suggest a colour for you - no idea what your taste is. I suggest you look at lots of kitchen pics find the style you want to achieve, then we can narrow it down for you. Paula Re: kitchen door clours... please help 3Jul 12, 2008 9:48 am Hello HiH, welcome,
Yes, I aggree that this forum is great and people soooo friendly and helpful. Another suggestion is go to several display homes and look at colour examples there. You will know very quickly with which colours you feel comfartable. Once you know that it will be just a matter of choosing shades. Maggie Re: kitchen door clours... please help 4Jul 12, 2008 10:21 am Just a few suggestions based on what I have seen people on here use;
- Laminex Pearl Grey - Laminex Licorice Linea - Laminex Fossil - Laminex Oyster Linea You are lucky the QQ ice should go with anything, same with your flooring. Good Luck My karma ran over your dogma kitchen door colours 5Jul 12, 2008 8:18 pm Thanks for your replies.
i just looked at laminex brochure again and i do like pearl grey, but i am not sure whether it will go with the white oak tmber flooring or not. as rightly said that colour selection is more of a personal opinion but it will be very helpful if you guys throw some ideas and it might fit very well into my expectations as well. also if anyone is aware how much PD charges for vinyl wrap doors in kitchen as the prices are still a suspense for us. And what are your opinions about vinyl wrap? I mean is it a durable option or not? are there any drawbacks of having vinyl wap kitchen, that anyone is aware of? hope to hear from all of you beautiful people there. chao Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: kitchen door clours... please help 6Jul 12, 2008 8:20 pm I'll reply - you did say we were beautiful after all
I think PD charge about $3000+ for their vinyl wrap kitchens, some people have thoughts about edges peeling etc, I know my mum has this problem with her kitchen, but I think the vinyl wrap looks great. We have stuck with Polar White in the laminex, but others may be able to give you a better idea. Pearl grey in my opinion would look great with your floors My karma ran over your dogma Thanks guys love your replies 7Jul 12, 2008 8:29 pm Thanks Haywgl
after how long did the edges of vinyl wrap in your mum's kitchen started coming off. and i agree that they look beaultiful. And hubby loves polar white but its just me, for me white will be a lot of maintenance. And thanks indeed beautiful Re: kitchen door clours... please help 8Jul 12, 2008 8:32 pm My mum has had her kitchen for about 8 years, I think it started happening after about 4 years but only in areas suh as over the cooker, or where she had the kettle/toaster etc...
Polar white is popular but not for everyone, I'm sure you will find a colour you love My karma ran over your dogma Re: kitchen door clours... please help 9Jul 12, 2008 9:11 pm Hi homeishome! The vinyl wrap is well over $3,000. We were quoted $3043 but this did not include the back of the Island Bench or the end panels or one side of the cupboards (they simply forgot to include it ) Hopetoun usually give a round about figure of $5k. I spoke to a few kitchen places about the vinyl wrap, the kitchen does come with a warranty but they cannot guarantee it won't peel so that was the reason we chose not to have it. I didn't want the worry of waiting for it to happen!!!
I like Bel's suggestion to of the Fossil and Licorice Linea. Licorice on the lower and Fossil on the overheads. Are there any colours that appeal to you? Which house are you building? house design 10Jul 12, 2008 10:22 pm hello HTB
thanks again for your valued suggestion. i am building Illoura with PD. i think $5k is bit too much and with the drawbacks attached to the product type, i prefer not to go with it. another question.......... if i go for gloss finish is it still vinyl wrap or just extra price for gloss finish on standard laminex colours. has any of you taken the gloss finish, any drawbacks? i think i am asking too many questions, but i am so worried about the kitchen as it is the central part of the house. and i am sure, no one but you guys can understand what i mean.... Re: kitchen door clours... please help 11Jul 13, 2008 8:35 am I'm pretty sure gloss finish only comes in vinyl wrap. We are having flint finish with just the Laminex. It ended up costing us about the same price as vinyl wrap and we decided to forgo vinyl wrap for the reasons already stated. Polytech also do a gloss laminate (costs about 1.5K more than matt finish) but I'm not sure about laminex. I personally love the gloss finish and think it is worth the extra expense. In terms of colours ... join the club. We all agonize over which colour to go with. Why don't you do a colour board or cut and paste pictures of your favourite kitchens into a book. Once you have done this you will start to see a theme emerging i.e. contrasting or tonal colours etc. IMO try the soft warm colours or even an off-white. Re: kitchen door clours... please help 13Jul 13, 2008 7:55 pm Thanks HTB and DeeEll
I think i have decided now not to go with vinyl wrap as per the suggestions by all of you. I agree it looks beautiful but i dont want to pay for something that needs replacement within 4 to 5 years. Thanks DL for the information, I hope Laminex offers something in gloss which is not vinyl wrap. lets see how i go, i am still waiting for someone to call me to make colour appointment as my csc advised last week that someone will be calling soon to make the appointment. As far as colour is concerned i am thinking champagne coloured lower doors and some thing in timber look for upper doors that match the timber flooring. I still think that ice benchtop will look good with this combination. Any suggestions for this colour scheme???? Do you know Dy, I asked the consultants at PD's showroom about this and they said if I wanted a gloss finish I had to have vinyl wrap.......we didn't even get the option of colour tech? Think that was for Prestige clients only (we are lifestyle) Anyway too late for me as we cannot make any changes.......going to wonder now about the laminate in gloss Happy at Home Re: kitchen door clours... please help 15Jul 13, 2008 11:14 pm I know HTB, thier process is more than funny...... too many loop holes and hidden truths. I just hope that the end product proves to meet all of our expectations, and this kitchen colour thingy is taking away my sleep at night Re: house design 16Jul 14, 2008 11:25 pm House-To-Be Do you know Dy, I asked the consultants at PD's showroom about this and they said if I wanted a gloss finish I had to have vinyl wrap.......we didn't even get the option of colour tech? Think that was for Prestige clients only (we are lifestyle) Anyway too late for me as we cannot make any changes.......going to wonder now about the laminate in gloss You gotta love those consultants ... you certainly can get a gloss or sheen finish in laminate but only certain brands. It's not that much dearer for Polytech sheen than the matt finish. But I guess they contract to certain suppliers which means they get it cheaper. I'm sure you're kitchen will look great HTB. If its any consolation the sheen/gloss shows up fingerprints far more than the matt finish, which is why we went matt on the lower cupboards. edit: from memory Amerind panels are gloss, matt and semi matt or esse finish. Sounds too complicated .. I just picked the colours I liked . They also have gorgeous veneers. http://www.amerind.com.au/?section=veneers and panels http://www.amerind.com.au/pdf/Amerind_Panels.pdf Re: kitchen door clours... please help 17Jul 15, 2008 10:21 am I am also having a mix for my cupboards, blond wood for the bottom ones and glass in aliminium frame for the upper ones. I wanted all the same for wall cabinets but I have been told that I have to have a solid door for the corner one so I might go the same as the bottom ones or I just might go plain white, still have not decided, so mixture is good. My task is easy as we are renovating ourselves and I can just go and get the door I want/need, tha cabinet will be already in place. If I do not like it the cost of the door is only about $25 so I have not wasted too much >
What colour champagne? sort of pinky white, creamy white, beigy white? Milky coffee would go quite well with your wood but hey, I am no expert, wait for Michelle, she might suggest something brilliant, she is the one to ask. Maggie Re: kitchen door clours... please help 18Jul 15, 2008 11:09 am Hi Maggie,
its really good to hear that atleast someone is in control of what they are doing. i reckon its easier when you are doing renovations, isnt it? all the best with your renovation, and i think that the glass paneled upper cupboards look great. Champagne is a creamy beige colour which come is laminex. Thanks for your suggestions, next time when igo to the builders showhouse, i will look at the colours suggested here as well. I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14304 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8289 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15586 |
