Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 27, 2015 8:38 am I have been using the ikea kitchen planner and came across their 140 cm tall cabinets, they seem a good alternative to the 200 or 220, they are not as heavy looking in a small kitchen.
I'm tempted to use them but I'm a little worried that they are too unusual or awkard. Anyone else used them here and if so do you have photos? Thanks ! I have created an album, hope it makes my query clearer! The plan is what I'm thinking of doing in my kitchen, very simple and uncluttered. (The photo with the rug in the middle was my primary inspiration) Other photos are from ikea show room and from a cooking classroom in Sydney. When I show my plan to my friends they tell me it's weird and that cabinets should go up to the ceiling. A look I think would enclose my small space too much. Please let me know what you think Cuttingedgekitchen, with a name like this I feel I can trust your advices http://s1006.photobucket.com/user/brigm ... o/library/ Re: Use of 140 cm high kitchen cabinets. 4Aug 28, 2015 8:06 am lostinreno Fair enough comment! The use of the 1400mm high cabinets just looks strange. Personally I would run the wall oven and pantry as high as possible and then run overheads off the side off the wall oven to the window wall. I have found some more photos of that type of setting on the houzz webpage. It seems to be a fairly new trend so maybe it will take a while before it seems ok to do it that way? Re: Use of 140 cm high kitchen cabinets. 6Aug 28, 2015 8:30 am Also worth adding that I'm on a fairly strict budget and the more classic configuration would blew up my budget ! Re: Use of 140 cm high kitchen cabinets. 8Aug 28, 2015 8:44 am I will use that cabinet for food. Initially I had the oven there but will place it under the Cooktop. Also I do have an long overhead on the other side(135). I will keep it and change its door to make a feature of it. It's good for glasses, mugs etc I've added a photo of my space in the photobucket page, you can see I need a new kitchen badly!! Its totally up to you but I know what I would be doing. Also consider how long you will own the property for?? If its for ever then do what you want, BUT if you are thinking of selling in the next 5 years then you should be installing a kitchen 95% of the population would be happy with. Personally I don't think there is enough storage in your original design. You need a proper pantry! Yes I will need to dust it but that doesn't bother me. I don't have a kitchen to show yet. But here's something. http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww288/ambipup05/640x480.jpg Re: Use of 140 cm high kitchen cabinets. 12Sep 02, 2015 10:09 am Thanks Bluesteel. I'm leaning more and more towards minimalism myself (maybe with a more traditional aesthetic though). My existing kitchen, tiny as it is, contains everything I possibly need for preparing and serving food! Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
