Hot pots and pans went on the sink ( it was a double sink with double drainers or on heat pads on the bench across from the stove. even when i was trapped sitting i could sit midway between the stove and the bench top and just reach both. in my new kitchen we are having a similar arrangement but with a 700 mm side section of bench next to the stove top.
