Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 23, 2015 10:06 pm Dear all, I've always loved the classic look of a shaker style kitchen with timber paneled doors. Now that I've bought a little weather board home and I'm ready for a kitchen renovation, I've quickly realised that I can only offer the basic flat panel cabinets. I'm afraid they are too modern and generic for my taste and the style of my home and I was wondering how I could give a kitchen with such cabinets a bit of a country/timeless character and flair ( on a tight budget...) It's so hard when you had an idea for so long to adjust to something else. Please share your kitchen photos with me, it would be very helpful. Thanks Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 2Jun 25, 2015 12:05 am Hi Have you tried IKEA? They have some shaker style kitchens Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 3Jun 25, 2015 4:47 am Sadly I live too far from ikea! My only ressource is a local cabinet maker. Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 4Jun 25, 2015 1:13 pm You could look at what colour cabinets would best give that country feel. Perhaps you could source some interesting door handles instead of the modern ones. Have you looked at the website houzz? there is a ton of inspiration and loads of photos. I would definitely go off white for a less clinical look. It's hard to know what works best in term of handles, I will definitely check out houzz for more ideas. It's quite amazing how such a little detail like panelling, even the most discret of them can totally change the feel of a kitchen... Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 6Jul 01, 2015 4:36 pm Hiya.. From.the quotes I receive, any type of door with a bit of panelling is considerably more expensive. Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 11Jul 08, 2015 6:11 pm For inspiration have a look at my project of kitchen renovation http://prodboard.eu/kitchen/#project-sample-7 I've done it with the help of web app 3D kitchen constructor which I accidentally found in the internet. You can use different colours and materials for cabinets and benchtop and see what your kitchen will look like. Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 13Sep 16, 2015 9:39 am Try fitting classic kitchen cabinet handles to your flat panel cabinets. They give your kitchen a more country theme. Match them with your overall kitchen colour scheme. They will make your kitchen look less modern. Here are some classic kitchen cabinet handles I’ve found online: http://www.restorationonline.com.au/kitchen-handles Hope this helps. Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 14Sep 16, 2015 11:45 pm I would say in addition to the drawer and cabinet handles, use your appliances, taps, pendant lights, and bench tops to get the traditional look. Then in a few years time perhaps you can add some trim mouldings (DIY) to the doors & drawers to add a bit of texture/style and get closer to achieving the look you want for much less than the cost of replacing all the doors & drawers. Just make sure you have a good spirit level, an accurate tape measure and a steady hand! Good luck. Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 15Sep 17, 2015 12:37 am Would it not be cheaper to order ikea and then have it shipped to where you live than go through your local cabinet maker? We are using cabinet maker for kitchen but I used ikea shaker style for our laundry Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: In need of kitchen inspiration! 16Sep 23, 2015 8:15 pm Thanks all for the replies, we ended up taking the long trip to ikea and bought the all kitchen in one go!
