Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 14, 2015 2:16 pm Hi there, Can anyone recommend a good quality gas stovetop and gas under bench oven? With the stovetop, preferably where the burners are spaced apart far enough to get more than 2 pots on! There doesn't seem to be a very wide selection of under bench gas ovens, most seem to be electric. Thank you! Re: Gas Stovetop and Ovens 2May 14, 2015 2:45 pm What width cooktop are you looking for?? I would suggest a minimum of 700mm for the cook top, you get a 5th burner and they are spaced just wide enough to get 3-4 pots on. Why do you want a gas oven?? The electric ones are just as good. We have more than enough space for a 900mm cooktop and oven, but I don't think my husband is keen on that! The builder has included a 600mm Chef one, which we have looked at and don't like, so will get a credit for that and buy our own for the builder to install. Do you like a particular brand? As for the oven, we currently have a freestanding gas cooktop/oven and it seems that the gas oven cooks more evenly than a previous electric one I used. If we were to go electric, what is the best brand? I have read lots of reviews and it seems that so many say that the electric ones don't cook the food properly, they have to turn the temperature so much higher etc. Thank you for your help! Re: Gas Stovetop and Ovens 4May 14, 2015 4:56 pm We have 900 top and 900 oven - but electric. I'd go that size if you can. Very useful at Christmas - with a big turkey. We actually had a special column built in kitchen as part of benches etc - including very useful drawers above and below - with the microwave built into it as well. Works very well and looks great. Re: Gas Stovetop and Ovens 5May 14, 2015 5:17 pm Personally I prefer gas ovens. Electric is better if you do lots of baking - the heat from an electric element is drier. If like me you like roasting meat etc then the more moist heat from a gas oven is better. In saying that though a good cook will know how to get the best out of any oven and these days nearly all gas ovens have an electric grill element anyway. Just my 2c worth... I have found a Westinghouse under bench which looks ok, but struggling to find many options for under bench. Thanks! Have you used fan forced electric??? I am guessing you had problems with electric ovens and uneven heat because they were cheap and nasty or not fan forced. There is a huge difference between cheap uprights and proper fan forced electric ovens!!! 95% of ovens put into homes in Australia are electric fan forced and they work perfectly well. I have done a number of kitchens for chefs and the put electric ovens in!! Having said that some of the mid range to expensive brands like Ilve still make a wall gas oven I'm unsure whether they make an underbench variety. Smeg and Emilia do too. www.appliancesonline.com.au/600mm60cm-i ... u=600lvgng Then there are the excellent products from V-Zug which get a lot of wraps but they aren't cheap. We'll be hedging our bets and probably get a 900mm electric freestanding range with a gas cooktop but also a gas wall oven similar to the one above which will be the one most used. Stewie Re: Gas Stovetop and Ovens 9May 15, 2015 10:15 am Agree with last few comments - fan forced is very different. Also - we would have had to have gas bottles - not natural gas - and I hate that. Just getting them filled etc ... Re: Gas Stovetop and Ovens 11May 22, 2015 9:41 pm We have a 900 freestanding gas cooktop and oven. We deliberately chose a gas oven as we are off-grid and wanted to avoid too many electrical appliances. When choosing our appliance we were very limited as there are not too many gas ovens around (and almost no gas wall/under bench ovens). We tossed up between Ilve and Glem and in the end chose Glem due to the cost. We have been using it for nearly three years and love it, although it may take slightly longer to cook things they come out more moist then an electric oven. Although is is gas it still has an electric fan and grill. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
