Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 09, 2015 2:20 pm I'd love some feedback on our kitchen design. This is what is currently planned: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm concerned about the functionality, with the fridge tucked into the corner, so anyone wanting a drink has to come right into the kitchen. Also access to cutlery etc from the dining room is a little awkward. These are some other designs I've come up with: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Keeps the pantry and butler's kitchen, makes the kitchen a galley layout which I prefer to the L shape, longer bench. I would swap the fridge with the oven. It doesn't leave much room either side of the cooktop, 45cm either side at most, but that's what we have now and don't find it an issue. We will have an induction cooktop so the cooktop itself can double as bench space when not in use. Or: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Removes the pantry and butler's but leaves a lot more useable bench space everywhere. More flexible with fridge and wall oven placement. I lose the massive walk-in pantry but retain a small one. I am leaning towards this but it's my husband's least liked option. He likes the original, and I don't! Any ideas would be much appreciated. Re: Help with kitchen layout 2May 09, 2015 11:02 pm I would keep the original design and swap the fridge and wall oven positions, I wouldn't like people coming around the corner and running into the oven being opened. Plan 2 has nowhere for the dishwasher or sink and the space around the cook top is too small, you may be used to it now but you shouldn't have to compromise with poor design in a new build. Plan 3, I don,t like to waste a beautiful big work surface by sticking a sink in it . Re: Help with kitchen layout 4May 10, 2015 10:12 am You say you have to go right into the kitchen to get to the fridge in design 1, but it doesn't look like it's really all that much closer in the other designs. Where are you planning on putting the cutlery in design 1 that makes it awkward to get to from the dining room? I would keep a walk-in pantry, because you're better having storage hidden away rather than covered over lots of expensive and visible benchtops. In design 2, those outward opening doors could be inconvenient, as its handy to leave the pantry door open while cooking. They could open inward instead though. If the fridge and wall oven positions are swapped in plan 1, it leaves far less space around the cooktop, maybe 35cm either side. Bin placement becomes an issue too - in the island or next to the sink? In plan 2 the sink would go in the island somewhere. My husband would prefer the island to be left unadulterated. d@n #1 & #2, the pantry is too out of the way for regular use. #3 looks too big. Agree on both points! But the kitchen can be shrunk in plan 3, returning more space to the dining room or elsewhere oneJohn You say you have to go right into the kitchen to get to the fridge in design 1, but it doesn't look like it's really all that much closer in the other designs. In plan 2 I'd swap the oven and fridge from what is currently shown. In plan 3 the fridge could go on the end of the bench on the side, or on the laundry wall, although that could make the work triangle a little large. The cutlery drawer in plan 1 would have to go in the island somewhere. Depends also on bin placement. There is no obvious spot for either of these. I like a large walk in pantry too, but in the current plan it feels very out of the way. You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15600 Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. I'm set on having the main sink with dishwasher in the scullery - and… 0 20917 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6139 |
