Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 17, 2015 9:59 pm Hi everyone, We're just at the very beginning of planning our kitchen renovation and since i come here all the time for inspiration or to search for an answer to something I'm stuck on, i thought id start my own post about our upcoming reno. We're trying to update out kitchen while keeping costs a low as possible, as I'm sure everyone is when they first start out I actually love the layout of our current kitchen and just really want to freshen up the colours a little. We recently had new stone bench tops put in and they look fantastic! Now i just want to change everything else Basically everything thats currently brown i want to change to high gloss white. The current cabinets are fine so we'll just be replacing the doors, getting a new oven wall unit, adding cupboards and a range hood cabinet above the cooktop, changing the splash back (although I'm not sure what that will end up being just yet), and adding a cupboard next to the fridge. We recently had new stone bench tops installed on top of the existing cabinets. They look great and are a massive improvement on how it looked before, but the rest needs updating now. Here's our current kitchen: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Oscars_Kasie/IMG_1840.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Oscars_Kasie/IMG_0196.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Oscars_Kasie/IMG_1838.jpg And this is what i plan for the wall part (I'm sure theres a better name for that, i just can't think of it right now) http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n112/Oscars_Kasie/IMG_0199.jpg For the island we'll just be putting a white panel at the front, and changing all of the cabinet doors to white on the other side. The island is 3.3m long and i'd like to get one big white panel to go over the top of the current brown ones on the front side (the side where stools will go). Is it possible to get a piece that large? Could i just get a sheet of laminate or something? Im not 100% sold on solid white for that, since i have two young boys and I'm sure they're going to kick it and/or put their grubby little hands on it. Id be forever cleaning it I have no idea what my options are for cabinets and cabinet doors though, or where to go to find out. I assuming laminate would be the cheapest option but I'm not sure what else is out there. I did go to a showroom earlier in the week but the salesmen who i spoke to was a bit of a jerk and clearly didn't want my business. He got frustrated when i didn't know what square form was, or poly-something or other so i apologised and left. We're new to Perth and very new to renovating so I'm a total noob when it comes to all this stuff I have looked at a few DIY places online where you can order doors and flat packed units from but I guess i need to know what materials and colour i want first. I know just going to a cabinet maker is the easier route, i just wanted to get a bit of a head start first to get my head around what i need, what we can do ourselves (hubby can install everything) and what i need to get from where if you know what i mean. Re: A few questions about our kitchen reno 2Apr 19, 2015 7:43 am What material are you existing brown doors??? Laminate, vacuum form or polyurethane?? If they are polyurethane( 2pac or spray painted) then you can simply respray them in any colour you want! They are Melamine apparently. We have gotten a couple of quotes to have everything sprayed, as i thought that might work out easier and a little cheaper. However they were both around the $2.5k mark and the last guy said that we'd have the remove everything ourselves, including the oven unit, and we'd be without everything for a couple of weeks. I thought we could probably just replace everything for something around that price. Re: A few questions about our kitchen reno 4Apr 20, 2015 2:46 pm MrsLatimer Thanks CuttingEdgeKitchens.
