Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 05, 2015 12:18 pm Hi Any tips to fit in 2 x 600mm (preferably at least one waist height) and a microwave (ideally not under bench) Compromise has to give somewhere but thought the clever mind here might be able to help! A tower with all would likely leave one item too high/low (I'm 167cm husband more like 181). Ideal would be side by side in tower but would this take up too much bench on the rear wall? And also how to balance it we don't want to buy other appliances for the sake of it just to fill in the tower... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The rear bench will have a 900mm cooktop with concealed rangehood, pantry, overhead cupboards and fridge space appx 950mm - 1m. The sink, dishwasher and bins will be on the other bench near the window. The island will be 1 m deep x 3 m long. Also, do you this the bench on the other wall (N side) is a little bit long extending into the living room side? Tips/compromise ideas welcome! Thanks Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 2Mar 05, 2015 2:34 pm We have gone for a compact steam oven over the normal oven. We went into retailers and looked at all sorts of configurations and decided that the stack would suit us. We will be putting microwave on shelf in pantry at 1100 mm high. Under bench and bending down was not an option. My advice, go and look at a retailer that has a good selection and you will get a feel for what will work for you. Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 3Mar 05, 2015 2:45 pm When you say a compact steam oven, you mean a normal oven and a steam oven? Or is that like a double oven? Sorry I don't really know about steam ovens. We don't have a walk-in-pantry in that design. It will be a pull out. I wonder if there is some way we can build a little cubby onto the bench? I know which appliances I want, well it is between the 2 600mm in a certain brand or if I need to an AEG double oven but it is just trying to work in how to fit them.. Thanks for your reply. Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 4Mar 05, 2015 3:57 pm We went with an AEG 600 X 600mm (std size) pyro oven stacked with an AEG 600 X 450 compact combo steam oven - like a normal oven but with a steam function or a combination of both. The top of the normal oven is at 1200mm with the steam oven on top. We were originally going to mount a convection microwave in a trim kit above the normal oven but when we saw a demonstration of the steam oven we had to have one. I think we will do most of our cooking in the steam oven. Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 5Mar 05, 2015 5:05 pm We're having 2 normal ovens in a stack. I'm 155 and hubby is 180. We will most likely use one oven for most of the time, and the second oven occasionally. We got the measuring tape out and worked out a comfortable height for both of us. We did consider the side-by-side option but that was an extra $1500 (or was is 3K? I forget) for additional cabinetry and electrical work, so decided against it. We would still need to solve microwave since underbench also not an option and do not have a WIP. Maybe build a little cubby or cupboard on the bench for it?? We have enough bench space. Really I guess the issue is just how to place everything. Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 7Mar 06, 2015 8:32 am trixee We're having 2 normal ovens in a stack. I'm 155 and hubby is 180. Where are you going to put your microwave? I think the two ovens are ok but then there is the microwave issue. We use it frequently for porridge in winter. My husband is tall so it would be hard for him bending down all the time, but you don't want it too high either.. If I compromise and get the AEG double its 894 x 600 wide x 570 deep I think that would be ok with microwave on top? Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 8Mar 06, 2015 10:31 am What about putting the two ovens into a tower above each other and the microwave in a trim kit below bench with a drawer under it. I know, something's gotta give..but looking for solutions. We are planning a concealed range with 2400 landscape cabinets above just on the rear section, could a microwave cubby be built into cabinetry under that? I've seen that sometimes with a stand alone range but not with concealed ones, a bit hard to describe. Or a little cubby on the bench, like an appliance hutch with the roller door you sometimes see? Yeah I agree, I haven't seen any pictures where it looks good but wasn't sure if that was the kitchen style. I think a bi fold might be the way to go thanks for your help. Thanks yes it does that looks great, I see you have what is effectively two 'towers' but it is interesting that you said to have the ovens side by side in that configuration would have still cost more? Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 14Mar 09, 2015 9:05 am I think it was the additional electrical and trim kit that drove the price up. Not really sure why! viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 15Mar 09, 2015 9:16 am Yeah I guess it is another trim kit etc.. do you think this config would work if we have the two ovens either in a tower as yours or side by side (if affordable)? then the microwave in one of the other four 'squares'. We won' then have another appliance to fill in that gap though, maybe have ovens in a tower one side and on the other microwave behind a bi fold door with a cupboard above/below Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 16Mar 09, 2015 9:58 am Leksie5000 do you think this config would work if we have the two ovens either in a tower as yours or side by side (if affordable)? then the microwave in one of the other four 'squares'. Do you have an elevation drawing of the areas you're thinking of? Might help a bit. One of the other reasons we don't have the ovens side-by-side (I only just remembered, sometimes I forget why we made the decisions we did!) is that we have a wall/door next to the right-most stack, which would make it awkward to access the oven opening. And at this point we don't want a built-in microwave so we want to hide the appliance behind a door. Although admittedly access to the microwave might still be a bit awkward, at least we won't be dealing with scorching ovenware. Also, something that I saw on the weekend might also work, is instead of bifolds is to just have basically one tall cupboard (like a pantry) and put the microwave in that. Might end up being cheaper as there are less hinges. (Although I'm not exactly sure what causes the cost increase in cabinetry work.) Obviously you'd leave the door open for ventilation while using the microwave. Re: Fitting in 2 600mm and microwave 17Mar 09, 2015 11:39 am This is the same issue that we are looking at at the moment. To me, if the bottom oven is right at the bottom of the tower, then after two ovens, the top of a microwave on top should still be below eye level - but then I'm 185cm, and it may not work so well for other users. I don't think the height of the bottom oven is such an issue though, as it isn't much worse than an underbench, and wouldn't get used much anyhow. For us, the microwave may end up in the pantry again. I'm reluctant to go the way of trim kits too, with all the $$$ to spend, and then find it a few years the microwave fails and have trouble finding another model with trim kit that'll fit the same spot. Most trim kits a very similar size and easy to retrofit. Though I think the smaller hinged door like what you have may be easier to open. But this is an option, we plan on a pull out pantry but this could be a fixed cupboard. We don't really want a built in one either I think they are a bit of mucking around, I would rather be able to just replace it freely. no I don't have an elevation drawing only of the outside and the floor plan, we are waiting on indicative quotes from kitchen places at the moment to get our loan so aren't that far down the path yetl.
