So I was wanting a gas stovetop and a Caesarstone splashback but apparently it is against the law in NSW due to the stone being combustible. Is this correct?
Might have to look at induction..

If you can have stone surrounding a gas cooktop, why can't you have it as a splashback? Where did you hear that? Re: Can't have gas cooktop with Caesarstone splashback? 4Mar 02, 2015 1:44 pm Caesarstone certainly isn't combustible and there are no issues using Caesarstone as a splashback with a gas cooktop. Our only requirement is that there is a minimum clearance of 200mm between the splashback and burner element itself. Re: Can't have gas cooktop with Caesarstone splashback? 5Mar 02, 2015 1:48 pm I find it hard to believe that stone is combustible! Who did you hear that from? Re: Can't have gas cooktop with Caesarstone splashback? 6Mar 02, 2015 2:36 pm As long as the splashback is non combustible that is the only thing that really matters. I'd like to know who the rocket scientist is who told you that you can't use Caesarstone for a splashback too. Stewie Re: Can't have gas cooktop with Caesarstone splashback? 9Mar 02, 2015 3:38 pm The rule as stated is 200mm from splashback to burner as it is a standard that must be adhered too but many don't. To have a 200mm distance from splashback would require a 700mm plus deep bench. And that is my problem! the bench is 600 and most cooktops are at least 500 deep! Re: Can't have gas cooktop with Caesarstone splashback? 12Mar 03, 2015 10:15 am Architecs, Builders, Plumbers, Appliance Companies & Kitchen Manufacturers should all know this rule as it is part of our Australian Standards 'AS 5601/AG 601 Gas Installations' prior to installing the kitchen and gas cooktop. You shouldn't have to find out by the Splashback person that this is an issue by than generally nothing can be done. Its generally not the Stone, Glass, tile or Stainless Steel that will catch on fire but the gyprock that is just behind it, splashbacks do not stop the transfer of heat. Its not the depth of the cooktop that's the problem its where they place the burners with in it. Some cooktops work perfectly well within a 600mm bench top as the nobs are on the side allowing the burners to move forward.
