Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Scullery Layout help 2Feb 20, 2015 7:18 pm How are you planning on using the space Archetto?? I like the idea of having an appliance space off to one side ... are you just putting a bench in or are you going to put a cabinet in under?? Would make more sense to have drawers/cupboards underneath so you have somewhere to store spare cups, tea bags etc. The other long wall would look great as a wall of pantry shelving. The return off to the left could be used for storing brooms etc. We have put a broom space into our scullery, only because I want a broom handy in the kitchen, don't want to have to go to the laundry. Re: Scullery Layout help 3Feb 20, 2015 10:07 pm We are having cupboards or draws under the bench and overhead cupboards above it. Only problem I'm finding with the under bench cupboards/draws is needing the space to open them The other thing is there is no door so it needs to look good from the living areas too Re: Scullery Layout help 4Feb 21, 2015 9:56 am Along the 1.9m section i would put a normal size bench but with a sink also and use the 2.64m run as your appliance bench but i would suggest to narrow the benchtop to either 500 or 450 as this enough depth for appliances with a run of open shelves along the wall but only 300mm deep. The 1.23m wall i would use as an open pantry style shelving at 600mm deep so you can have draws underneath and than store larger bulky items above including your microwave. Make sure you have power along the long wall too. Re: Scullery Layout help 5Feb 21, 2015 7:37 pm The house is already at construction and we haven't put any plumbing in or power along the long wall, to be honest I don't really want to stand in a room and wash dishes, I can understand storing dirty plates in there temporarily until guests leave but I'd rather wash them in the normal sink. We were thinking of maybe having a stand alone freezer in there tho? We were thinking of maybe having a stand alone freezer in there tho? Haha, I'm with you archetto, I'm no scullery maid! I'll be putting a TV near my sink too to keep me entertained while washing the pots. If you're intending to store food in the scullery, beware of adding appliances that will generate heat (fridges and freezers generate a lot of heat), as that will cause the food to go off quicker. Ideally your food storage area should be cool and dark. Re: Scullery Layout help 7Feb 21, 2015 8:54 pm As the scullery has no door it should ventilate a bit better but will have a look into that too Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Scullery Layout help 8Feb 21, 2015 10:07 pm We have a fridge in our pantry. We have a microwave too ( that just sits there as we never use it ) I find that its pretty cool in there . I too dont understand washing dishes in a scullery . But it is for some. Re: Scullery Layout help 9Feb 22, 2015 8:48 am We have a single round sink in the WIP but not for washing up just for rinsing of food or when you need water to fill coffee machine, rinsing n stuff like that. We also have the Zip Hydrotap in there which is i think one of the best things we ever did. My wife at first didnt see any need for it but now we have it she uses it constantly but we do a lot of food prep in ours. Without it we would be walking from kitchen back to WIP all the time which would defeat purpose of the scullery kitchen setup. Power can easily be added along the other walls dont limit your power down on one end only. Re: Scullery Layout help 10Feb 25, 2015 12:09 pm What about adding 400mm deep shelving to the wall of the scullery not currently occupied (bottom in the picture, on your right as you walk in) and then using what seems to be marked as bench already as your appliance area. With or without cupboards, shelving, pullout baskets underneath. I'm firmly in the sink in the scullery camp - purely so I can hide it away if I'm too lazy to wash dishes straight away I like the idea of open shelving and baskets on one of the walls, and I'd probably also go for the longer wall having the appliances - although it would be more hidden from view on the 1.9m wall. Re: Scullery Layout help 13Mar 09, 2015 6:47 pm It's too late to change which walls now as we have put all the power points on the 1.9m wall and it is less visible there too. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 8009 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 4557 |
