Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 20, 2008 11:08 am Hey everyone...
I need to make a decision about where to put the powerpoint on the kitchen bench, and my fiancee is no help...His all like, whatever you want... how is that supposed to help? hahaha Our bench/island (with waterfalll edge) has most bench space on the left, but because the drawers are on the left side, PD can't put the powerpoint on the left.... Soo my options are to put the powerpoint on the right hand side, or at the front of the bench.....? not sure where I should put it? Also, I've been told that the powerpoint can only be 300mm from the floor, any higher may incur a charge...seems silly for me to have it closer to the ground, because I'd want to use it for baking/kitchen prep stuff....do you think the location matters? Ta Thuy Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 2Jun 20, 2008 1:06 pm .....dont know where you should put it - but ours is on the same side as the drawers!! And it's right near the top....some much more than 300mm....! They didnt have any issue putting it there! Dont know if the waterfall makes a difference, but not sure why it would. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 3Jun 20, 2008 2:41 pm Thuy, we have ours on the drawer side of the bench, but its positioned a little more to the back end of the bench at 750mm high, just past where our drawer finish. But we don't have waterfal sides on ours.
The only difference with waterfall sides, i would say is they have to have the C/S cut out for the switch itself, hence more $$$. Someone else recently mentioned this too. What does the display home have and at what height is it if it has one? If its standard in there, then you shouldnt have to pay anymore. Or you can have it on the back side of the bench, where you'd put bar stools etc? But up higher, just under the stone top, so you don't notice it as much perhaps? A power point on a C/S benchtop at 300mm off the ground is just absurd - and quite frankly would look like crap!!!! Hope you work it out and they dont sting you for any more... Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 5Jun 20, 2008 3:20 pm Quote: A power point on a C/S benchtop at 300mm off the ground is just absurd - and quite frankly would look like crap!!!! yes, this does seem really silly- c/s, laminate or any surface - apart from appearance, as Thuy said, it is very impractical for baking equipment or anything you would use at bench level (phone chargers, etc), whilst this height may be ok for lounge rooms for Tv points etc it is entirely unsuitable for working area of a kitchen. I would think the bar stool side of the bench would not be very practical either. I can't really help you as we are haveing a raised breakfast bar; one of the 'bonus points' of that is that we can have the power points in the vertical bit between the 2 levels (not sure if there is a specific name for this but you know what I mean)) Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 6Jun 20, 2008 3:24 pm cool thanks guys! I've sent an email back to my csr to get her to check with the design team cos its not good enough...hehe
hopefully they can get it fixed... I did speak to her about the waterfall edge and whether the powerpoint can be on it (cos i read H2B's post on having to get someone out to cut the hole), but she reckons that shes confirmed with the team and that its not a problem...i have the email for evidence anyway...hehe thanks again! Ta Thuy Sorry but I have to say that what you have been told is crap. We are building with PD (cremorne 41 ) Lifestyle (same as you) and we are having QQ waterfall same as you and we ARE having the GPO on the side of our island, the side where all the bench space is and it also happens to be the same side that the utensil drawers are located. We are having it on the top like in Paula's photo but closer to the front so opposite to Phoenix's photo. Our cost is $110 for conduit, $214 for professional to come out and cut into the QQ and $14 for a nice stainless steel face plate/cover thingy. Push them Thuy..........you need to tell them where you want it and get them to do it! We had to push for the QQ and also for extended shelving in the Pantry as they didn't want to put it in as they said the support bracket looks ugly. I'd be interested to see what your CSC says about this and also what the charge is. You know what I've been charged.........$339 for a bl**dy power point Still don't understand why it's $110 for the conduit when one is going to the island for the dishwasher anyway.............. Happy at Home Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 9Jun 20, 2008 3:33 pm yea, not happy that there are examples that it can be done, and shes telling me that it cant....
i've sent her an email and see what she says, shes pretty responsive, so hopefully we can get this fixed before i go home 2nite one more thing to worry about Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 10Jun 20, 2008 4:15 pm woooo hoooooo
just got a call from my csr, and she checked with the design team, and they can do the power point for us on the side and up high like i want!! she's going to put it at the end of the bench, like yours Nicola, which is cool by me, cos whichever end it is, just as long as its up the top and on the side... I'm getting a building variation raised on Monday for us to sign off on... wooo hooo!!!!!!!!!!! i love my csr Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 11Jun 20, 2008 4:21 pm Good to hear Thuy, it will be a NO CHARGE variation, i hope?
Good on you for pushing it!!! Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 13Jun 20, 2008 5:13 pm Thuy, did she give you a price to have the GPO installed? Happy at Home Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 14Jun 20, 2008 5:17 pm Newbies hehe thanks! nah, no charge just noticed ur signature says ur handover inspection s 25/6? thats like 5 days away!! LOL....yeah i know.....sounds so soon, but there is still stuff to do on site so more like a few weeks away still. House To Be, how come you had to pay then??? It might be worth chasing up?? Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 15Jun 20, 2008 5:35 pm Oh Phoenix, I've had conversation after conversation regarding the GPO on Island.......wonder if Thuy means there was no charge to add the variation cause she is already signed off. We were told any variations we want after last week would incur a charge. I'm still waiting to be told why we have to pay $110 for the conduit......there is one going there for Dishwasher already.
Do you recall how much your island GPO was? You must be getting very excited to know that you are nearly there! Lucky you! Your last lot of photos on your blog look great. I've been wondering how different your wall paint is to Wattyl's Chalk Beige (same as Clath's) so going to go and find some samples this weekend to compare. Toni, the kitchen bench in our house came standard with 2 sets of chrome double power points, one at each end. We elected to remove the one that would be seen from the family/meals area and only have one on the side nearer the fridge. I ddin't want it to stand out too much and i know that it wouldn't really be used at all. I really do think that charging that sort of money is a cop out. Yes there is a conduit but no there doesn't need to be two of them!!!! They will run an extra cable or more than likely feed off the existing powerpoint that will already be included in the island bench for the dishwasher. You know what???? Put them on the spot and ask them to run the power from the existing power point for the dishwasher. Problem solved, no extra conduit required and money saved for you!!!! I'd be arguing for that! Variation or not, that really is a cop out....Extra conduit is utter crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey maybe thats an idea. Ask them to instead feed off that point - problem solved!!!! Good Luck with the colour selections too. Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 18Jun 22, 2008 11:18 pm **Phoenix** Put them on the spot and ask them to run the power from the existing power point for the dishwasher. Problem solved, no extra conduit required and money saved for you!!!! Hi Phoenix, thanks for the advice. I've sent an email to our CSC about using the conduit from the dishwasher. I'll see what reply I get to that...... I went through a few H3nl3y Homes yesterday at Mernda, nearly all of them had the GPO on either side of the Island and most of the Island were stone! I had to persevere with my request to have one Will see what happens this week............ Happy at Home Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 19Jun 22, 2008 11:22 pm Good you go get 'em!!!
If i remember on Wed with our inspection, i'll take a pic to show how ours was wired up if you like just to show them that it can be done??? Re: where should I put my powerpoint? 20Jun 23, 2008 12:05 am **Phoenix** If i remember on Wed with our inspection, i'll take a pic to show how ours was wired up if you like just to show them that it can be done??? If you remember, that would be great. Thanks. Also, when/if you have time do you think you could possibly measure your front door? I'd like to know what the distance is between the top of the 2nd panel and the bottom of the 3rd? Ta. I've found two places near me that can order the pull handles that I'm after. I'm thinking of going for 500mm ones but would like the handles to sit centered on those two panels (hope that makes sense!) Thanks! Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 762 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16007 |
