Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 20, 2015 10:30 am So I've being going through the whole kitchen quoting process and getting designs etc from different companies. The company/designer we like the most suggested that thick benchtops are now out of fashion. What does everyone else think?? He suggested the in thing is to have a thin stone benchtop with shadowlines, one thick waterfall on one end of the island and floating on the other end? Anyone agree/disagree? Re: Are thick benchtops out of fashion? 2Feb 20, 2015 11:30 am Hi there I think you should pick whatever you like because fashion will come, go and come back in:-) I'm having a concrete bench top and it won't be very fashionable as it needs to be a minimum of 70mm:-) Good luck- I'm sure it will look great no matter how thick or thin. Re: Are thick benchtops out of fashion? 4Feb 20, 2015 1:05 pm Totally agree dolphinblu. Pick what you like. None of this poncy 40mm thick granite or caesarstone here ! Stewie Re: Are thick benchtops out of fashion? 5Feb 21, 2015 10:01 am Thick or thin is a personal choice but if you have a long run with overhang 20mm looks funny. 40mm doesn't look good when the just butt join the pieces together as you get that line in the middle so if you choose thicker make sure its mitred to make the thickness Re: Are thick benchtops out of fashion? 6Mar 11, 2015 6:14 am Pics of the concrete benchtop please! Are you diy-ing or who does this work normally? (a concreter ?) Using a phone. Please excuse typos and autocorrect issues. And brevity. Only issue is waterfalls with 300mm returns, mitres are just not possible. So if you go for something with agregate, youll find that butt joins are almost impossible to detect. I definately cant see mine. Re: Are thick benchtops out of fashion? 10Mar 14, 2015 1:44 pm If you look at what is being pushed at high end kitchen exhibitions all over Europe, thin is most certainly "in" when it comes to bench tops. The Australian market is always a bit different though. Some might take that as we are behind but I don't think so at all. Rather, we have a different lifestyle and different tastes and trends follow. Those very high end trends take a long time to filter down to the mid-range domestic market too and many never make it. The short version is that I believe that 30-40mm tops will remain popular in Australia for many years to come. For me personally I still like the look of a micro thin bench against the wall contrasted with a thick and substantial island. Of course, your taste might vary I ran into trouble finding a lock that would fit my particular door, like your situation with your pivot door. I wanted a safe lock that couldn't be messed with easily. 4 25685 i wouldn't be worried, you'll definitely miss something, no matter how many times you review. we've spent close to 5 months ensuring everything got reflected in the… 5 9439 4 9393 |
