Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 02, 2015 7:09 am Hi guys, Wanting advice from those that may know.. Is there much involved in replacing benchtops? I am considering asking our builder to provide kitchen with the most basic of benchtops and then getting a good friend to come in after and replace with nice stone tops. Just looking at options that may save us $$$$ or may cost us more $$$ in the end?? Re: Replacing Benchtops AFTER handover?? 2Feb 02, 2015 7:38 am Yes there is a bit involved! First a disconnect and reconnect of plumbing and electrical. You then need to try and get the laminate top out from under the edge of the splashback without damaging it. You then need to work out a solution for a difference in benchtop thickness(assuming you want to keep the splashback) Laminate tops are 33mm thick, stone tops are 20 or 40mm thick. What sort of splashback do you have? That could make it easier depending on how they finish it. Will ask the questions then. Really just looking at the idea as i am pretty confident I can obtain quality bench tops cheaper than they will.
