We're in the same situation - going with a tightly sealed home using a zehnder HRV. Venting outside is a big problem with tightly balanced HRV homes. Make-up air options are possible but they're far from ideal and bring their own problems. Our architects have been using the Qasair Rangecraft units that have a "plasma" chamber that seems to vaporise the vented air from the rangehood before running it through carbon filters and the re-circulating. They're quite expensive however so I'd love to know if anyone else has seen/used them as the documentation is quite light.
