We are in the process of building our kitchen and really don't have too many options for design, the best being a kind of C shape with the bottom of the "C" going along a wall and the rest of the C being a peninsular coming outwards into open space between the lounge and dining, with a few angles bringing it around to finish parallel with the wall. (Hope that kind of makes sense)
The first peninsular section that is 90 degrees with the wall we are planning on making a breakfast bar with a 300mm overhang, which will stretch for about 1800mm before turning on an angle. At this point we'll go back to a standard 600 benchtop, and this section will house the dishwasher and sink (before another short angle return which brings it parallel to the wall - just for cutlery draws etc)
The whole area including the lounge/dining is a kind of L shape, with the kitchen in the corner so the angle with the sink is right next to the main walkway to get from one space to another.
My concern is that we are not having any overhang behind the sink area which is just a standard depth and I imagine will result in a lot of splashes onto the floor behind? But if we have overhang it will impede directly into a walkway which the kids will continually run into, let alone it just getting in the way.
This is the design we have to go with - I just need to work out whether we should have a minimal overhang or not - will it really make any difference if we extend it by 100mm? Are there any other solutions? I did think of a kind of lip behind the sink, but we wouldn't want to extend it all the way around, and it would look kind of silly just for that one section.
Thanks for any ideas
