Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 18, 2014 6:33 pm I am considering concrete bench tops for my kitchen. I would really appreciate feedback from anyone who has them. In particular, if they stain easily, how they take general wear and tear and what did you choose for a splash back. We considered the caesar stone 'concrete' slab but it just isn't right- to perfect, if that makes sense. Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 2Dec 19, 2014 6:16 am We are going to have them in our upcoming build as well. You do need to seal them once they are installed , then every six months after that and I think they would be comparable to a natural stone material like marble in that they will stain ( red wine, vinegar, beetroot, coffee etc ). It is a porous surface after all. One of my clients had them installed for kitchen benchtops and vanity tops and said they were very practical ( hard on the wine glasses and plates though ) although stained easily if you weren't careful. Makeup and toothpaste from his teenage kids on the vanity tops was the worst he said. Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 5Dec 22, 2014 2:33 pm Hi Dolphinblu, Have you looked at the new Caesarstone concrete? No sealing required, and non porous. Looks quite a lot like real concrete. With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 6Dec 22, 2014 8:32 pm Concrete in general, is a beautiful product to use in the kitchen, bathroom and throughout the home if done correctly. Either way, my advice is the same as that for most natural stone finishes - seal it and keep it sealed. In that respect I'm a huge fan of the reconstituted stone provided by several manufacturers these days. By virtue of the the resin used to bind it together, it is always sealed. Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops- UPDATE 8Jul 06, 2015 1:00 pm Just an update Concrete bench top was installed today. It was fabricated off site. Looks fantastic and the team of guys installing it were great. Highly recommend them. http://www.2barrows.com.au Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 9Jul 06, 2015 9:29 pm Have you got a picture of your bench? I would love to see it. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 11Jul 07, 2015 10:06 pm That's very nice Dolphinblu! Your kitchen will look great when it's finished. Is that your polished concrete floor I spy? Regards, Limefroggy Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 13Jul 07, 2015 10:18 pm It looks very nice. What colour mix is it? Regards, Limefroggy Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 14Jul 09, 2015 6:31 am limefroggy it is just a standard concrete mix- 20mm aggregate. We threw in some white stones of similar size whilst the concrete was poured. In hindsight I would have had them added to the mix. We did not get a very high gloss finish. Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 15Jul 09, 2015 8:43 am We're getting Madrid from the imagecrete range at Hanson concrete. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 19Jul 10, 2015 10:51 am Be sure to post a photo Stewie D when all finished. Look forward to taking a look Re: Concrete kitchen benchtops 20Aug 02, 2015 8:45 am thats a nicely done concrete counter top dolphinblu, concrete is a good material for its durability, unlimited designs but has to be sealed for easy maintenance. Concrete tops examples http://kitchendesignscapetown.co.za/concrete-counter-tops-cape-town/ To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9830 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10926 |
