Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 25, 2014 9:18 am We are renovating our 2br apartment and I am loosing sleep over the kitchen layout. I have tried working with KD from the big store and what he come up with looks like a "before" picture, except that he suggested closing off the doorway (please see below in red). I am looking at high glossy white & wood grain melamine kitchen (see below). Also I am not sure if I want a side by sideor regular single door bottom freezer refrigerator We are a family of 3 and don't really buy in bulk. I thank you very much for any input you might offer. Blog: http://prestigebuild.blogspot.com.au Re: Kitchen Layout advice? 3Nov 26, 2014 10:16 am Hi, I will make a plan but i need a crucial measurement. What is the width of the whole room from the left bedroom wall to the outdoor sliding door? 1. what height shall the benchtop have? 2. Is the location of the water connection and drain fixed or can they be moved? If fixed, i need the location from the bedroom wall (outside measurement of cold to hot water and drain location). 3. the rangehood should have a flu to the outside? If so, any fixed position? 4. the washing machine will be back in the kitchen? 5. what width will be your cooker? 6. the oven under the cooker or built in higher in a cabinet? Re: Kitchen Layout advice? 4Nov 26, 2014 11:01 am If you have the opportunity to take out that wall it would definitely open up the space and give you a very nice layout at the back of your home. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It would also give you ample space for the kitchen, and would be ideal for full-height cabinets against one wall, bench space on the other and an island in the middle similar to this. If so, any fixed position? - not necessarily, its not fixed 4. the washing machine will be back in the kitchen? - its in one of the the bathrooms and will stay there 5. what width will be your cooker? - 595mm but we haven't bought one yet 6. the oven under the cooker or built in higher in a cabinet? - we would prefer modern wall oven but open to ideas. Many thanks again for your input. Greatly appreciated!! Re: Kitchen Layout advice? 6Dec 23, 2014 12:59 pm Can you fit the fridge, under bench oven and stove all along the wall furtherest away from the dining area? That way your guests won't be getting in the way of your meal preparation. I like to have my island bench free of any appliances so there's lots of prep area and guests tend to mill around it. I definitely agree that removing the wall would make the space feel much bigger. The dimension from the wall plan left to the sliding door plan right are still missing. I guessed 5.20m? Although the wall from the window to the wall plan left is missing. it is difficult to make suggestions without proper measurements. I although don't know the seating requirements. For 2, 4, 6 or how many? another question is, do you have your SBS already or do you intend to buy one? Don't buy one they are a most stupid invention in a kitchen. You can't fit a turkey, you can't fit a pizza and so forth. Plus, why would somebody constantly want to bend down to floor level to take out some fruits or veggies? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Buy a sink that is large enough to fit a large frying pan flat in for soaking, eg 450-500mm. Buy a pullout tap with browser function. Without pullout it will be hard to clean a larger sink as those modern ones (eg Franke or Blanco) are pracitally flat at the bottom. Nothing runs off easily but they look good. If you get a stone benchtop, choose a undermount sick without drainer. It looks "cleaner" and a drainer is not really necessary, the water can be wiped off into the sink if undermount. The bin cabinet ideally is next to sink Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ something like this looks sleek for an apartment too Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploading pictures on this forum is very very time consuming. This forum would be much more active if direct uploading were possible. From someone who runs other forums, I'm guessing the reason why the forum owners here do not allow direct uploading of pictures is simply the space that they take up on the server package that they are using. This is a pretty active forum in the first place, so I could imagine how fast the server space would fill up if all the pictures were being saved on the server. Yes, a forum admin can purge all the old photos periodically, but that leaves broken links in the older posts, which aren't much fun for people searching the older posts. Off site picture hosting is really the smartest way of running a very active forum like this one. I dare say the forum admin would agree with what I've suggested as the reasons why they don't do direct uploading of images. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
