Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 11, 2008 6:45 pm Hi,
I have had interesting conversations with Stone guys over the last week. At the beginning of April I choosea Granite stone that would be cut for our kitchen. I then sighted the cut stone last week (end of May). I have looked at photos from both days are they are different - the latter much yellower. I have been assured that they are the same stone and that the colour difference is due extra moisture in the stone cut for our kitchen. Further I have been assured that the colour of the stone will be more like the April colour once it is exposed to light / warmth and allowed to 'dry'. For anyone with knowledge - does this sound reasonable? Ta Scot Re: Granite Colour 2Jun 11, 2008 7:19 pm Hi Scot,
I have not heard of this. Did you pick out your actual slab or just saw a sample of the colour you are getting. BTW, what colour granite is it? This could make a difference in the variations of colour. I love granite and are also getting it for my house. Mrs B Re: Granite Colour 3Jun 11, 2008 8:56 pm Hi Mrs B,
We actually choose the specific slab. We looked at 2 varieties, Kashmir Gold and Ivory Fantasy. The former has a significant range from grey thru yellow. It also has significant veins etc. The latter is more consistent in both colour and general look. We choose Kashmir Gold. I have now seen photos of our specific slab taken between April and May and I can clearly see the part of the slab I choose and the part that has been used for bench top. The reason for difference in colour is that the part that has been used for kitchen was not exposed to UV light and warmth - it had other stones resting on it. What I have seen so far - i think I will be happy either way. Our kitchen is - Floor - Grey Ironbark Cabinetry - 2pac Federation profile / Dulux Ant. White USA Bench as described Splashback - Starfire Dulux Stonecap Lighting - Downlights L shape (2.5&2.5) with seperate island (2.5*.9) Separate Fridge, Pantry & Phone Bench (same stone) Kleenmaid appliances Ta Scot Re: Granite Colour 4Jun 11, 2008 9:42 pm Hi Scot,
Kashmir Gold is stunning colour. It will look fantastic with your Antique White USA 2 pac cupboards ( same colour what we are having) I dont quite understand why the stonemasons can say its slightly different in colour because it wasnt exposed etc but the main thing is that you are happy with the quality of the stone and the professional job they are doing. Just make sure the joins are spot on and hardly noticeable if done correctly. We would all love to see a picture of your kitchen when ready maybe one of the kitchen experts on this forum can explain the inconsistences of the stone colour. Mrs B Re: Granite Colour 6Jun 13, 2008 2:23 pm Hi, the following photo is part of the stone used. The pale bit is the part of the slab I sighted. The deeper colour is the actual part used for bench. I have been told that the difference between the 2 is due to exposure and that over time (~ 2 months) this difference will not be noticeable.
