Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 10, 2014 7:22 pm Can anyone please give me some honest feedback about mirror splashbacks? I love the look of them but have been warned of their need of frequent cleaning! Are they very impracticable? how obvious are grease/fingers prints/splashes etc from cooking. Are they easy to clean? What are they like for reflecting sun etc? We have a room with A LOT of windows. Don't want to be blinded while cooking! Thanks, Kirsten Re: Mirror Splashback Reviews 2Nov 12, 2014 6:41 pm Hi Kirsten, I install a lot of Mirror Splashbacks and have had very few complaints. Its kinda like owning a black car or wearing black clothes. They show up more stuff because they are reflective but they look amazing if the rest of your house suits it. All dark colours and reds glass splashbacks are similar that they show up more mess because of the reflection factor. BUT glass is very quick and easy to clean no matter how much mess gets on them. You dont get finger marks as you dont often touch the walls but you see splatters from cooking and around kettles where condensation occurs dust shows up as it sticks to it. If you are the type of person that cleans up every night after cooking than simply wipe it over before washing up and thats it 1 minutes work, and when visitors come over use a spray bottle of water with a touch of metho and polish it up with a microfibre cloth looks amazing and about 5 minutes work. This photo is from a house that had a lot of sunlight, hope this helps Re: Mirror Splashback Reviews 3Nov 17, 2014 2:18 pm Apparently if you have a gas cooktop in front of the splashback it can burn the mirror very easy. I had a couple of people tell me this.... Something I would have never thought of. Yes this can happen. Standard bench top depth is 600mm and works for most cooktops. Some cooktops position the back burners/elements very close to the outside edge making it hard to put a large pot on. Its a really tough call here as to who is responsible. The cooktop company still makes them to fit into a 600mm top although they don't function correctly nor do they usually give a suggested bench top depth. The kitchen company usually only sees online specs which doesn't indicate burner position properly and doesn't have the suggest bench top depth. If anyone is reading this and about to have a kitchen built, when you select your cooktop take a good long look at the burner position to see if you need to ask for deeper bench tops. Which if fitted to these specs generally calls for a min 650mm benchtop. This regulation is part of the kitchen and plumbers guidelines, AS/NSZ 4386.2:1996 Re: Mirror Splashback Reviews 10Dec 29, 2014 4:29 pm I love the look of the mirror splashback and our cooktop is on the island so no worries about it. Could anyone tell me about the costs please? Is the mirror splashback more expensive than getting tiles done? Easy to clean with a little metho and water in a spray bottle. As far as cost it was a little over 2k for ours over 4 meters long with return. I was told it was something to do with how it is treated to make it properly heat proof for the cooktop. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Mirror Splashback Reviews 14Feb 15, 2015 3:56 pm Toughened Glass has what we call 'roller wave' in the glass due to the toughening process but unless its laying flat out in the sun you can't notice it. The most noticeable glass for roller wave would be the Mirror Splashback but unless you look at it along the face of the glass from the ends and in direct sunlight you won't notice it.
