Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 05, 2014 8:07 pm Hi guys, What I need for my new kitchen is the kitchen cabinets to be self closing and soft close. Is there a specific hinge that will do this or will I need a combination of soft close hinges and self close hinges? Anyone else have someone at home that doesn't shut doors properly? haha Cheers Re: Soft close hinges combined with self close hinges 2Nov 06, 2014 12:27 am All the modern cup hinges are self closing once the door goes past about the 45° point. (Unless they are reverse sprung for push to open, but they are completely different). Soft close simply adds a little hydraulic piston to slow down the closing action. Standard cup hinges tend to slam close, whereas the soft close shut slowly and silently. All the top brands (Hettich, Blum, Grass) have integrated soft close units built in now for a more streamlined look. Drawers are the same. most are now soft close unless you go for the very cheap single wall drawers.
