Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 28, 2014 10:44 am Hi there. We are in the process of installing a new kitchen and I'm conflicted as to which bench top material I should go for. We don't plan to be in this house for much longer so I don't really want to go to the expense of installing stone, however a friend has just recommended Roxx Stone (a stone veneer) which she has recently used in her kitchen. It looks great, but it's new, so it should look good! I'm interested to hear how it looks after a few year's use. Are you happy with it? Are all of the edges /joins still perfect? I'm concerned about the joins lifting at the edges, or the edges chipping. If anyone is able to offer any insight, I'd be most grateful. The alternative will be acrylic, supplied by Ikea. Many thanks!! Re: Has anyone used Roxx Stone for their bench tops? 2Oct 28, 2014 1:08 pm Roxx stone is a NZ made 6-7mm thick veneer of stone which needs to be glued to a sub straight. We have a similar product in Australia and I personally would not use it. It doesn't actually cost much less if any at all and you end up with a fake stone top that can crack or delaminate! Have you considered CaesarStone, SileStone, Quantum Quartz or Smartstone. The cost difference in there standard range would be negligible! I've seen this stuff around, but it hasn't worked out any better in pricing, then a 20mm thick top. It's really designed to sleeve over existing Joinery. Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Iām loving the potential versatility and practicality of a bench seat in a shower. Anyone had one of these done recently?
