Re: Small fridge space!! Please help!! 13Oct 07, 2014 2:05 pm MyH1Login The plan was quite blurry - looks like there's a lot of space in the walkin pantry for the fridge. Seems so weird that they would say they can't do anything now that plaster is on, but here you are looking for alternatives to knock it down. I think that's unhelpful of the builder? They should at least give you the options of knocking down the wall, widening, changing your cabinetry order etc and give you a quote, instead of say sorry nothing can be done. As for the small space allocated for a big house - whoever designed it was stupid and obviously didn't care enough to actually think about the functionalities! I'm frustrated for you ... Flip side builder might be saying is that you've been staring at the plan for months and you didn't notice, so it's your responsibility to pick it up. Looking at your plan again - there's actually the measurement of the fridge clearly (but I can't read it) marked on the plan. I have a window that's off centre, and was shocked and angry at first, but I was honest with myself and I didn't pick it up either so I'm gonna live with it. Fridge is different though No big builder would make such a change at this stage.. Cabinetry would be well on order (probably already in manufacture) electrical roughin done. You could look at changing it to a laminate but would require a lot of recto work. From memory, whirlpool have a 650L side by side fridge with water/ice. 850mm wide Samsung have a 534l upside down one with water only 772mm wide (was recently trying to find a small fridge for a friend!) You might think its unhelpful of the builder but it could actually add weeks to the house construction. Spec build homes are built to a timeline and everything is ordered well ahead of time. Sure the wall could be knocked down and replaced with a cabinetry panel but the rear wall would have to be fixed up, the bulkhead would have to be fixed and cabinets changed. Its not that hard but if everything is already built they see it as a massive waste of time! If something like this is picked up at the planning stage its quick and easy to fix and wouldn't cost anything. At this stage its totally different! Please help!! 15Oct 07, 2014 11:31 pm Looks like you are stuck with the 875 width but there are good options for fridges even with that restriction! Considering you have a wall right next to the space I think you would be silly to go for a side by side as it will be difficult to open one of the doors. If you get a bottom mount (freezer on bottom) that opens away from the wall you should be good. As they are usually skinnier than 875 you might be able to fit one that opens against the wall as this would be more practical but you would have to be really careful with your measuring in the shop! I used to have a 520L bottom mount fridge and I miss it...I now have a 760L side by side and I feel like I fitted a lot more food into the smaller one! Re: Small fridge space!! Please help!! 16Oct 25, 2014 9:39 am Did you double check with a tape measure that the fridge space you have matches the size in the plans? If yes, then look at Fisher/Paykel's bottom freezer fridges; they have several about 790mm wide, which should work for you. Some even have french doors on the upper part. Mitsubishi has a bottom freezer with french doors, too, the MR-EX562W, that clocks in at 560L but only 750mm wide (it is very tall, mind, so you would want to check that out). I will also have a very narrow fridge space in my little house, so I try to stay up to date on what will fit. Chris On the threshold of retirement... and trying to check my assumptions at the door Not sure if that works? I was told the issue is the headspace clearance requirement on step 4. My builder is proposing shifting the beam 310mm towards the kitchen...I'm… 2 2540 I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7530 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9959 |
