Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 23, 2014 4:28 pm Hi, We are just finalising the details on our whole home renovation. We are doing this ourselves (hubby is a builder). We've renovated/built a number of times. We are trying to keep costs down. Not a strict budget as such, but we've learnt over the years by being creative & doing the research you can get great outcomes for a reasonable price. So we are at a bit of a sticking point on the finish for the kitchen cupbaord doors... I am a bit of a matte/texture girl, hubby likes a lot of shine in the kitchen. So what we have so far. Interior is mainly painted Antique white, with a couple of Monument features. Original hardwood sloors polished. Kitchen. Essastone French Black Benchtops (glossy - I can compromise) to the back and sides of the kitchen. A "floating" thick wooden slab sit at bench end at the access end. We both agree & love this, we also agree that white, or light is the go for the cabinets. I'd be happy with Laminex white. I've got my feature & impact with the bench tops. Hubby wants white gloss. My issues are that 1. that's more money (either 2pac or gloss laminex panels) and 2. It's a lot of gloss. Can anyone think of any alternatives with the scheme I've suggested. It's only below the bench cupboards, we are having open wooden shelves to match the bench on the far end wall. No splashbacks either. Windows to bench level for both the toves & sink. Thanks for reading my ramble. Re: Cupboard door material/colour recommendations 2Jul 24, 2014 8:40 am How about a sheen instead of a gloss?? I agree I don't actually like gloss kitchens. You see you reflection in everything. Sheen is almost like a semi gloss, no reflections but still has a bit of sheen. Just when I thought it was spotless the sun would shine through the window on it and it would look terrible. (Or im a terrible cleaner!) We gave the island a bit of bling and are doing our floors in high gloss instead as I do like high shine surfaces. Re: Cupboard door material/colour recommendations 4Jul 31, 2014 9:59 pm If your after white gloss ,go for vinyl wrap,I,m getting 2 PAC for a custom look, antique White USA 2pac to match skirting with 4 lines on ea door to match our Corinthian internal doors, wall colour sandy day,for me 2 PAC for a more custom job, vinyl wrap or high gloss laminate if not wanting a custom finish Different to what others have said but thanks for that insight. 2 4440 Not recommended!
