Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 22, 2014 9:34 pm Hi Everyone, We are having an island bench and have decided to put a couple of extra cupboards next to the area where there are stools ( the front of the bench) So in the display homes, where the cupboards form a part of the bench they don't have any handles to give the bench a sleek look. The builder has said an extra 800 dollars for this on 3 doors ( on top of the cost of the cupboard)Is there any other way to do this that is cheaper. Can you do anything similar to having cupboards overhang slightly on overheads to achieve the handleless look? I hope this makes sense and unfortunately the builder is getting us to sign off on kitchen plans without an actual copy of the revised kitchen so unable to post elevations. Thank you BLOG: http://www.ourphoenix38.blogspot.com.au H1 THREAD: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70454 Re: island bench cupboards on front of island 3Jul 22, 2014 10:36 pm Surely the $800 is for everything extra. The doors will be push to open. The fittings for those 3 doors would cost less than handles. Thank you What length and depth is the extra run of cabinets?? (best guess, doesn't need to be exact) Without this we can only guess. What were the other options and what were the price differences?? There really isn't that much difference in price between push to open, sharknose and handles. The doors have to be slightly bigger and then another piece of wood to make the space for the finger pull. It's not much but I guess it means more labour. The doors have to be slightly bigger and then another piece of wood to make the space for the finger pull. It's not much but I guess it means more labour. Why do the doors have to be bigger?? On all base cabinets the doors and drawers are 20mm smaller. On overheads the base of the cabinet is kept 10mm up. Yes sure there is a construction rail but bugger all labour as its all cut out on a CNC. The extra material you talk about actually comes from the kitchen door offcuts that would normally go in the bin! The OP said the price was substantially more, there is no reason for this. I told them to leave the cupboards the same as normal but just take the handles off. I will fit push to open catches from Ikea after hand over. My Build, viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64837 Re: island bench cupboards on front of island 10Jul 26, 2014 11:48 am Trying to understand this. Are you saying that it's $800 extra, for a no handle look to the kitchen, or $800 extra, for cabinets on the back panel of the island, with no handles? Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Are you saying that it's $800 extra, for a no handle look to the kitchen, or $800 extra, for cabinets on the back panel of the island, with no handles? $800 extra for no handles. That's in addition to the cost of the cupboard itself. I would just go with a little overhang for your fingers to grab. Cannot see it costing anything actually. Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards.
