Knowing that I'm vertically challenged he asked me to confirm with him what height I would like the shelving. He suggested that the bottom shelf sits 600mm above the benchtop to allow room for any appliances. I was thinking maybe 500mm or 550mm. If you have a benchtop and overhead shelves in your pantry, what is the distance between your benchtop and the first shelf? And are you happy with it? Keep the chocolates up there out of temptation Re: HELP - Pantry fit out 3Jul 18, 2014 7:20 am I think 700 is standard, so you should be OK with 600, but go lower if you want. Is your OH tall? Re: HELP - Pantry fit out 4Jul 18, 2014 9:15 am I'm JUST on 5ft, any shorter I'd technically be a midget Hubby is just over 6ft tall. We ended up sticking with the 700 as we have plenty of bottom storage, and I don't intended on actually using much of the top storage, and if I need to we've agreed that he would retrieve things for me! Re: HELP - Pantry fit out 6Jul 18, 2014 9:45 am I just phoned my cabinetmaker to advise him I'll stick to his recommendation of 600mm off the benchtop. Hubby can always reach the top shelves for me, or I'll buy a little stool Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: HELP - Pantry fit out 7Jul 18, 2014 2:37 pm I have one shelf 724mm above the bench in my pantry, it had to be that high because of two fixed windows, it is 450 deep but I can only reach stuff at the front. I worry that you may not be able to reach the first shelf at 600. In this photo each tile is 100mm high so you could probably put a shelf above my toaster at 400-450. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/shelf-bench4_zps80a11d3e.jpg These are some of my appliances on the shelves opposite the bench. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/shelves4_zps95825002.jpg Regards, Grumbles Re: HELP - Pantry fit out 8Jul 18, 2014 6:50 pm Thanks Grumbles I just measured the kitchen overheads at our current home and they sit 700mm above the bench which is a tad too high. I can reach stuff on the front of the bottom shelf. 100mm lower *should* be ok I'm thinking that I can fit another shelf lower on one section/side after handover if I need it. Hopefully with the below bench shelving there should be enough storage space - well, space that I can reach anyway! Gosh it's hard being short!
