Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 08, 2014 9:47 pm Hi we want to give our kitchen a bit of a facelift but not sure where to begin. First, here are a few pics: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We want to: - change the cupboards as we are over this colour - change the pantry door - stone benchtop (waterfall if budget allows) - new mixer and taps - new splashback We aren't sure on costs and if we should get a kit or who to go to for quotes. We are in Ipswich, QLD. We would love to make the fridge space bigger so we could fit a side by side fridge but don't think that's possible. Would also love to change the entire layout of the back wall (to the right of fridge) but we think that will eat up too much money. Any idea on where to start? Any pointers/feedback/companies or any clues on how to do this in a good budget would be greatly appreciated! My guess, judging by the colours & layout, is you're at Raceview/Flinders View, Yamanto, or possibly even Brassall(newer section) . All certainly comes down to what you want to spend on the room. There's a few good cabinet makers out that way. What's your maximum? What would you be happy with spending? These will be the determining factor, in what you actually do to the room. Option 1 - a facelift Basing it on guessing from your pics that the back wall is about 3400 long, and the breakfast bar is about 2800 long - change the cupboards as we are over this colour For Melamine, in a different colour to what's there, i would say around $3.5k - $4k to reface the kitchen in a basic way. This includes remaking the oven tower, back panels on the breakfast bar, and updating to drawers inside the breakfast bar, all new hardware, along with new kickpanel faces, and adding a cabinet above the fridge. You may also want to consider running a panel upto the ceiling to close the dust collector above off. For a two pack finish, i would add another $1500-$2k onto this figure. - change the pantry door Included in the above figure - stone benchtop (waterfall if budget allows) You'd be about 4.5m^2. A standard/basic entry level range of engineered stone tops from the big 5 suppliers would be around $2900-$3200 fitted. Around $300-$500 more for 40mm, Allow $500-$700 more for the waterfall end. In terms of the top thickness, be careful with where the benches go into the window sill. - new mixer and taps New sink & mixer package - can be anywhere from $360 - $1500 for something of quality - new splashback Tiles - allow around $650 for the tiles, including the tiler. A little extra if you need to fix up the walls behind Glass - allow about $825. This is guessing you're about 1.5m^2 of glass Will also need to factor in any plumbing or electrical to above. Option 2 - a new kitchen Without appliances, i would expect anywhere from $12k-$17k for a new kitchen, from a decent cabinet maker* (*not a chain, or hardware store). This would include removal, new cabinets, engineered stone tops, tiled splashbacks, plumbing, electrical, plastering. You would also be able to do alot more at this price, with changing the layout of the back wall, adding drawers wherever possible, and widening the fridge opening. Along with taking the cabinets upto the ceiling, removing that pantry and replacing it with something in the cabinet material, with adjustable shelves, inner drawers etc. This would gain about 180-200mm of space to widen the fridge opening abit. The joiner would also match the floor line, to avoid replacing the floors. For further fridge opening gains, you could also pull the wall out to the LH side of the fridge, ad replace it with a cabinet panel down to the floor. Though to widen the fridge opening, you'll need spare floor tiles. Do you have any ? Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Re: Want to give our kitchen a facelift (pics) 3Jul 09, 2014 7:33 am If you go for option 1 you can save a lot of money buy doing some of the work yourself. If you can remove splashback, benchtop and doors giving your tradesmen a clean slate it will really help. If you pay someone to do the whole job(option 1) you might as well get a new kitchen!
