Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Swing door for pantry 4Jul 06, 2014 1:33 pm I agree, a door is a must unless the pantry is somehow designed to wrap around and is concealed from view. We are having a sliding door, which slides into the wall cavity to help minimise space though. Eta: I think swing doors can look great, just have a good think about where the door swings open to and if it would get in the way. Re: Swing door for pantry 6Jul 06, 2014 5:45 pm Hi - Thank you all for your replies, but I think that I have been misunderstood. I am having a door to the pantry, but just want to know about the swing doors as another option to the sliding door. Maybe I am calling it by the wrong name. Its a full size door but does not have door locks and it can get pushed in both directions. I thought the swing door would be much handier as it would close on its own and if your hands are full you can still open the door to go into the pantry. Cheers Re: Swing door for pantry 8Jul 06, 2014 6:13 pm Hi Ari - Yes but a single door as I think most have double. As There are only the two of us I don't think that it would be much of a problem hitting each other. But sometime something that sound good can be a pain in the long run, that's why I was hoping someone who has had one for a while could tell me how they find them long term. Cheers Re: Swing door for pantry 9Jul 06, 2014 10:16 pm Double action doors with 180º hinges I've heard them called before. If you install one then you find it to be a pain in the neck you could always remove it or replace it with a standard swing door, Stewie Re: Swing door for pantry 10Jul 07, 2014 3:44 pm Are you using doors matching the kitchen material, or internal doors? Have done it before, using double action hinges like below. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The hinges are pretty expensive for a heavy duty version. From my memory, they don't stay open (most are sprung), and alot of the hinges available don't like being 'kept open' (with a lock/hook/magnet). A door that shuts behind you, when you're in the pantry, will be a pain after a while. I would find it annoying when exiting the pantry with your hands full. and would see myself ripping the door down not long after installing it . Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Re: Swing door for pantry 11Jul 07, 2014 4:40 pm Thank you all for your input. I have decided to stick with the sliding door in the pantry. After having a good look at the kitchen plan, realized that the door would swing out right in the path to the fridge which could cause a nasty accident.
