Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 25, 2014 7:39 pm Hi guys we have had our kitchen bench tops installed the colour being carbon. We have noticed the occasional white blemish and a couple of what seem to be chips in the surface of the bench. I have been and looked at a large sample at laminex and there is not even one of these white blemishes. The laminex sample is of a decent size approx 1m by 500mm. the white blemishes almost look like white paint spots except they are in the finish.
Builder has inspected and seen the spots and chips and today have told me it's been inspected by the stone mason who says it is normal. Out of all the sample kitchens/displays ect we have seen with the darker colours, we have never seen anything like this. Does anyone on here have a carbon bench top? Re: Essastone issues 4Jun 25, 2014 8:01 pm I wouldn't be happy with that. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Essastone issues 5Jun 25, 2014 8:30 pm I have been in my home for 3 weeks and I have noticed a few on my bench . My kitchen is white so cant notice as much . But I guess coz I have down lights you see everything . In saying that I recon everyone has some .its if they pick it up . When I was building we had someone throw a brick in my laundry it chipped my esssastone bench . They came back and did their thing and its gone. Except now i have noticed a few more that were probley due to the brick. So I think it will be easy for them to fix it .keep at them . Im going to mention it next time I speck to my builder they have a few things to do at my home. I think waiting till my 6; mon check will be hard to.prove that I didnt do it . Re: Essastone issues 6Jun 25, 2014 10:42 pm My first action would be to email the pictures to Laminex (distributor/ manufacturer of Essastone) to get their feedback & arm yourself with info, before talking to the builder or stonesmason/cabinetmaker Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Re: Essastone issues 9Jul 02, 2014 9:17 pm UPDATE Quote: I visited the above site on 25/6/2014. I noticed shade variation at the join in the hotplate bench this will be replaced. I also inspected the Island bench which is well within our companies guidelines as stated on our brochures(Small blotches or off-colour particulate (chips) or irregular particulate distribution will also occur in engineered quartz surfaces and are considered a normal characteristic of the surfaces. If you have any questions please ring me. Regards. H.H Hans Harich Business Development Manager – Premium Surfaces Really not happy as the chip is not just an "off colour particulate" it's a bloody chip you can dig at with your fingernail. Re: Essastone issues 10Jul 03, 2014 12:29 am "Normal characteristic"? I don't think so, you expect irregularities in natural stone, but not manufactured stone. That would indicate a defect or lack of quality control in the manufacturing process, I would think. Re: Essastone issues 11Jul 03, 2014 5:49 am How frustrating and upsetting. I wonder what you can do now about it.... Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Essastone issues 12Jul 04, 2014 7:05 pm Its an engineered stone surface, the installers have damaged it. Demand immediate replacement, they charge a lot of money to install this stuff which they buy for a couple of hundred bucks a sheet. Just tell them you wont be accepting it at handover, builder to rectify at their expense......................scream loudly, that's been working for me. Remind them of their obligation to provide goods of merchantable quality under enforcable consumer protection laws, tell them you have a report on the matter from an independent building consultant( that's a porky pie) and suggest that replacing it immediately may be cheaper than arbitration with costs subsequently awarded against them. Casually mention your past history as a vexatious litigant......and your sterling work as a forensic accountant for the Australian Tax Office The argument: They've chipped it, its an irregularity in the surface consistent with the installation of a damaged sheet. Perhaps counter offer (no pun intended) to pay only 50% of the cost demanding immediate remittance of that amount. Attack on a number of Fronts, generally when you send their accounts a bill, the same day a "legalistic unambiguous threat" arrives they will cut their losses and rectify the damage THEY caused and have been trying to elude fixing based on a strategy of bullying you and deliberate obfuscation. The Law works on expert opinion so you need to remove them as the "Technical experts"....do so(or threaten to do so) and all thats left is a damaged counter that they are trying to get you to accept. I would be very suprised if they dont cave-in. I'm assuming . are you going through a builder . Re: Essastone issues 14Jul 04, 2014 11:08 pm We had a couple of chips in our new crystal salt at the previous place courtesy of a slap happy aircon installer. The so called fix is to fill the chip with the same glue they use for the joins. Looked terrible and would attract dirt so could always spot it. Stick to your guns - it is not good enough! Re: Essastone issues 15Jul 04, 2014 11:51 pm I had a brick hit mine when I was building .I don't know what they did but its gone. I have notice a few more on the same bench ..would be interested on how they are going to be fixed . I think if people really look most people will have chips . downlights pickup everything. And I'm a person to notice everything . lol never back down . they won't you to give up . Re: Essastone issues 16Jul 06, 2014 10:52 pm bench is being replaced, i am going to visually inspect the new piece at the factory before it is cut to ensure their is no imperfections. Also replacement was only authorised after i dealt with the main boss of our builder who in turn made a phone call to laminex himself and told them to change it. Will let you know what the new piece looks like. The white spots are apparently unavoidable however the chip is something i could not accept. Re: Essastone issues 19Jul 07, 2014 12:05 am nearly worn out with all the arguments and issues, but tuesday is our final inspection. I'm building a new house. First time using stone The stone I've picked is Essastone Chalkstone. I've since read reviews on a general google search and most of them are… 0 2819 i think we've got essastone, could even be the Chalkstone (or it's equivalent 10 years ago). by now has couple of chips on the edge where we have accidentally banged some… 2 2646 I am looking at building a house. Has anyone used Construkt Homes (based in Adelaide)? Does anyone have experience with this builder? 0 6451 |
