Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 22, 2014 7:56 pm Hi, Can anyone please help with approximate prices for what you spent on stone benchtops in your kitchen? (ps: not interested in slab prices as that doesn't mean much to me) We had a kitchen design today and our plan shows we have about 4.5 square metres of benchtops. We were then quoted $4700 for Silestone installed with cutouts (u/sink and cooktop) with 40mm edgings (note this is not 2x20mm slabs glued together) One 20mm slab but they edge it with a 40mm piece. if that makes sense. Now they have offered $1000 discount on this price so $3700. I do prefer the colours of Caesarstone but have no idea who to call to get a quote and we only have 5 days to cancel this order, so I need to know if we are on the money so to speak... Should I stick with this price for Silestone?? Thanks everyone Re: Stone benchtop prices, how much did you pay installed... 2Mar 22, 2014 10:03 pm Hi, We are going thru the same stuff just now, with a 4 sq m kitchen, u-shape, standard cutouts only, and our estimates are around $3700. It can vary upwards a lot though by having a waterfall, or a funny layout that maximises the number of slabs which have to be used. We visited the Silestone slab warehouse at Villawood in Sydney, and it showed us how worthwhile it is to look at the biggest sample you can find. They can look quite different in the light as well. There are a couple of on-line estimators too http://www.thinkbenchtops.com.au/ http://www.pazstone.com.au/price-estimator.html Bunnings is cheaper, but less choice http://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/ki ... tops/stone Cheers Re: Stone benchtop prices, how much did you pay installed... 3Mar 25, 2014 8:12 am All 40mm quartz based bench tops are 20 + 20mm glued together. There is no such thing as 40mm! There isn't any difference in price between Silestone and CaesarStone. Your kitchen company will be using a stone mason for the bench tops and they will also be able to supply caesarstone for the same price. Remember that there are 3-4 price categories depending on the colour chosen and that undermount sinks add around $300 - $400 to the overall price! This is not the standard benchtop edging but definitely can be done and looks better in my opinion. Cutting Edge may be able to give you an indication on price to mitre edge per lin meter. Its still a 20 + 20, weather its mitred or double up its not solid 40. When they mitre the front edge they double the back edge up. On a well done double up you hardly notice the join (there are some cowboys in the trade that do it really badly) Mitring can add around $300- $400 to the price as there is a lot more work. Thanks that is what I meant, the actual stone is only 20mm thick, we were quoted $80 per lin meter for the extra mitre edge. Thanks CEK I was aware of this due to all the reading I have done on this forum so I knew to question this as I didn't want a huge stone bill, they confirmed they don't glue 2 slabs together it is a mitred edge (sorry forgot the term in my OP) so the 40mm mitred edge costs $80 per linear metre extra which = $360. Plus the category we chose was only the 3rd dearest at $660 per m2 + GST. We can only choose silestone unless I wanted to use another company but I am happy to stay with this choice as I love the product plus the colour we chose is almost the same as the CS I would have picked. What is the going rate for CS per m2?? thanks for your advice Re: Stone benchtop prices, how much did you pay installed... 8Mar 26, 2014 10:59 am Hi MT70, Firstly i would be concerned that I was quoted $4700 than they reduced it by a $1000, sounds like the old days of pressure selling, start high and drop until you say yes. I don't like this kind of dealings and wouldn't deal with companies that work like this but that's just me. Silestone, Caesar Stone, Quantum Quartz, Essa Stone, or Smart Stone they are all brands of the same product. The difference between these brands is very minimal and would have no issues using any of them, the difference is the quality of the Stonemasons work. If the company you are going with only uses Silestone that's fine, but just contact another Stone Company that may use the brand you are after and just give them sizes over phone and they should give you an estimate. The are many stonemasons out there just make a few calls to help put the price issue. Or you can contact Caesar Stone if that is the colour you like more and ask them for contacts of Stonemasons in your area. Cheers Sean Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12921 Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 9970 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20417 |
