Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 08, 2014 8:50 am I need some advice on a kitchen layout to choose. I've come up with two rough 3D layouts in Sketchup, both have compromises as the room is an awkward size and shape. Pics can be downloaded here: Option 1 Pics: http://imageshack.com/a/img27/8327/ankv.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img835/1227/gv2n.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img89/1838/s3e3.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img35/940/mzw1.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img837/6830/f4c8.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img839/2205/4ucd.jpg Option 2 Pics: http://imageshack.com/a/img33/4702/j9yt.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img62/4008/43lz.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img827/7937/irca.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img854/6821/tdup.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img132/5316/ee94.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img62/4092/yko3.jpg To summarise: Option 1 Pro's: Nice and open feeling when looking in from the lounge room and walking in the house, rangehood/cooktop between the windows becomes a nice feature. Con's: Sink very close to cooktop (about 450 - 500mm separation), tighter feeling around the sink/cooking area, possibly too much benchtop space away from cooking area. Option 2 Pro's: More open cooking area. Con's: The tall cabinetry (fridge/pantry) partially obscures the window when walking in the house and looking in from loungeroom, making this part of the kitchen feel less open. This also blocks some of the west sun from reaching the loungeroom. I'd really value any advice, can't make up our minds! Re: Which kitchen layout to choose? (pics inside) 2Mar 08, 2014 9:22 am Does the sink need to stay in that position? I'd prefer option one but the sink and stove are pretty close... If the sink could be moved I'd look into these as an option http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/xxkat86xx/20140308_071850_zps2sy7phzg.jpg that would be my preferred choice of location for sink and stove but the fridge/pantry and breakfast bar could be interchanged depending on what works? It's tricky making sure doors etc can open if they are against a wall on the side. hopefully someone with some design expertise can help I'm just avoiding doing work lol Re: Which kitchen layout to choose? (pics inside) 4Mar 09, 2014 5:17 pm Thanks for the comments. xxkatxx I like the idea behind your design, but I'd need to move all the plumbing and I like being able to look out the window into the backyard when doing the dishes. I can't fit both a fridge and a pantry on that wall (which is 1088mm wide), as my fridge needs about 800mm of space. I'm going to play around with an alternative design based on yours, with the fridge in the new position. Quote: Light gets in your room but I believe there might not be enough depth on the left for the fridge? There's enough depth as I plan on recessing the fridge into the wall cavity. You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15586 Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 |
