Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 07, 2014 11:00 am We are currently building our new house and it has come to the point where we have to nominate the colours and finishes for our polyurethane kitchen. Here is a general sketch of the kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have Ceasarstone Osprey for the bench and waterfalls (island bench) and we were thinking of going a really dark brown for the island cabinetry and the lower cabinetry of the other bench, the overhead cupboards will all be white and the cabinetry where the microwave is located will also be white on the overhead and lower cupboards and drawers. The floor is tiled with an off-white 600 x 600 porcelain tile. Can anyone recommend a really dark brown colour from the Dulux range? We have looked at a colour called Bungalow Brown, which uses a Mission Brown base with some black tint in it, so it's slightly darker than a Mission Brown. Also, we are confused as to what finish to have - Satin, semi-gloss or gloss? We definitely don't want to have gloss, but wondering how glossy is semi-gloss. Satin might not make it look like a polyurethane kitchen? Would appreciate your thoughts and if you can post up some photos showing the difference between gloss, semi-gloss and satin, that would be great. Thanks! Re: Polyurethane Kitchen. Exactly what we're after, just in reverse. With the Cabinetry, is that in polyurethane? Is it a semi-gloss or matte finish? Re: Polyurethane Kitchen. PLEASE HELP 6Mar 09, 2014 8:12 pm Its all Laminex with CesarStone benchtops. Prob class it as semi-gloss. Re: Polyurethane Kitchen. PLEASE HELP 8Mar 26, 2014 12:46 pm Hi Splashers, thanks for the recommendation. We did have a look at Namadji and even bought a sample pot, but thought it was more like an off brown, so didn't go ahead with it. We ended up going with a colour called 'Bungalow Brown', which is based on Mission Brown, with a black tint added to make it a bit darker. http://m.dulux.com.au/colour/set/Tradit ... alow-brown Re: Polyurethane Kitchen. PLEASE HELP 9Apr 06, 2014 7:22 am Evelin Hallo, are you aware that every single fingerprint will show up on a dark surface? I personally would stay clear of it. Matt surfaces are even harder to clean than glossy. Evelin I'm not sure why people are are saying polyurethane matt/matte is harder to clean. Close to 2.5 years ago we renovated our kitchen and I wanted matt 2pac finish to match my design. I asked our cabinet maker if it was harder to clean and he said no as it was like a car finish (or something like that). Anyway it is smooth and incredibly easy to clean just wipe with a damp cloth --- and no chips, dints, scratches or stains it looks as if it was done yesterday -- and we did hogs bristle 1/4 which of course is light colour. Matte might be harder to clean in other types of material but I think if polyurenthane is done correctly is very smooth and therefore easy to clean regardless of the finish . Sure it is very easy to clean but it is not as easy to clean as a semi gloss or gloss. The more sheen polyurethane has the less stains stick to it and the easier it is to clean.
