Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 17, 2014 10:24 am Hi, We are leading up to prestart and I've been looking at our kitchen design. It's driving me insane trying to figure out how to have the kitchen so I can have more bench space. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ pc screen shot The sink being located on the island bench, minimises the space even more. I am thinking of adding another bench on the left all the way to the wall, then putting the sink there so it's out of the way. I want to add a raised servery half way along the island bench so it hides the sink and stops splashback. Has anyone added this to their design and how much does it cost? Also if you have any ideas on how to change my design that would be appreciated. Re: Kitchen design - Raised Servery 2Feb 17, 2014 10:57 am Here is a brief overview of the kitchen, dining and lounge. My island is attached to the wall to give the extra length. It works really well. Do you have a raised bar on the counter top to hide sink/stop splash back? If so, do you know how much it would cost to put one in? I really just want it to hide the sink, not to use it as a breakfast bar. We use the appliances in the pantry! No we don't have a raised bar on the island unit. I would need to know the material and size of your raised bar to be able to give you an idea of price. It can also be made from stone and fitted after handover. I might look into doing that with my microwave cos there is definitely no bench space for one and my partners tall so he wouldn't want it under cupboards. Thanks! How much for an appliance shelf or can you simply just put it on a shelf in the cupboard? Well I want to add a bench so the island counter runs to the wall. My benches are laminate, I want to add a raised bar 25cm high, so it runs along the edge of the length of the counter bench (which is 3.3m. That way it hides the sink and I can fit my coffee machine kettle under the raised bar. Does that make sense? I just want an estimate of the cost so I can see if it fits into my budget. Re: Kitchen design - Raised Servery 9Feb 17, 2014 6:45 pm Crazyk Watch out might be a bit dark with the cooktop wall blocking the light. What way is your house facing? Thanks for the heads up! I didn't even think of that. Unfortunately doesn't look like there is much we can do about it? Stove has a range hood so can't put a window there. We cant make any structural changes to move the fridge, pantry etc. Any ideas? Re: Kitchen design - Raised Servery 12Feb 17, 2014 9:17 pm We are heading into prestart and they have told us no structural changes, so we won't be able to change the walls (fridge recess, pantry recess). That would have made it a lot easier to put a window in if we were able to do that. That window looks nice in that kitchen but I don't think it would work for ours. As it would just be a small window above the oven and I imagine it would be a pain to clean when cooking. Thanks for the suggestion though. I might add a larger window in the meals room that will hopefully bring more light in. Re: Kitchen design - Raised Servery 14Feb 19, 2014 9:54 pm Gday, While I am on here selling my invention/ business I am actually a kitchen designer by trade lol. Couple of questions, Can you live with the island being 1800 or so? If so I would do similar to what you have in your second pic but form the corner start with a blind corner base cabinet with pull out mechanism, above it an appliance cab with benchtop running into it and bi fold corner cabinet above that starts the run of wall cabinets along the cooktop side. For the run along the rest of that wall I would put your fridge on the end and on first glance it looks like you will have enough room for either a large pantry between the fridge and appliance cab OR a pantry with MW (even a second oven!) and a smaller 500mm or so pantry next to that. That will free up heaps more bench space along the wall where your cooktop is. That way you can keep the 900 oven ( however I would actually just go a second 600oven and 900 CT) and then put some sml, pot, pot drawers either side. I will draw it up for you if you cant picture it. cheers Nath Finally a way to stop those annoying banging blinds! http://www.stopnoisyblinds.com.au Breeze-Ins Pty Ltd 1300 557 803 nathan@stopnoisyblinds.com.au Re: Kitchen design - Raised Servery 15Feb 20, 2014 6:23 pm Breeze-Ins Gday, While I am on here selling my invention/ business I am actually a kitchen designer by trade lol. I really appreciate the in depth advice I was trying to follow it but got a bit confused towards the end as I'm really all new to this. That would be fantastic if you could draw it up as I am a visual person - if it's not too much trouble. We do have a small budget for the kitchen as well, so I'm not sure how expensive it will all be? I really fell in love with the big oven as I love baking so I probably wouldn't get a smaller size. I love the idea of the microwave in the pantry, that would free up a lot of bench space. Also I was thinking about a corner pantry, do you think it would be much extra for them to put it in? or is it a bit of work? Thanks again. So we've just completed our prestart and asked for a laminated upstand box section (raised bar) that runs on top of our island bench concealing the kitchen sink. It will be approximately 2.7 m long and will look similiar to this photo Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have been quoted $1139. I think it's a ridiculous price but I'm set on having it as I hate an exposed sink and messy kitchen. Whether we have it now or add it after is another question - are we able to add this in after handover and how much will it cost? Any help would be appreciated.
