Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 22, 2014 6:59 pm I have been looking at products from Hettich and Blum, specifically their soft close hinges and their metal box drawers and it seems on the surface that the are both more or less copies of each other. It got me thinking are the parts interchangeable? For example my kitchen has Hettich intermat hinges and multitech drawers, could I, if a hinge was broken (which it is) simply change it with a Blum hinge, without changing over say the mounting bracket? Now of course I know I can also change the mount for little cost, but my curiosity wants to know if they are simply interchangeable. I guess the same too with the clip on soft close mechanisms each manufacturer has. As for their drawers, again multitech and metabox seem more or less identical. I need to beef up the runners on one of my multitech drawers so could I use a Blum runner? Only reason I ask is for what ever reason Hettich seem to make it hard for end 'customers' to get hold of their products, but Blum seems to be more readily available. Re: Are Hettich and Blum hinges etc interchangeable? 3Jan 23, 2014 12:27 pm You can't simply swap them out for each other. The hinges have different mounting positions and plates. The drawers are different as well. All the hardware works on a "system 32" principle meaning holes are drilled in multiples of 32mm but the actual fixing positions of the hinge screws is different. Hettich deal direct with the public so I'm not sure how or why you are finding it difficult to get a replacement part. The soft close hinges from Hettich are called Sensys and their soft close drawers are called Innotech. Intermat and Multitech are their basic range that you can add soft close too but where not initially designed as such. Where abouts are you AJW? Hettich gave me contact details of a local supplier who has been great to deal with so I am sorted. As mentioned my question was more curiosity only because the products I mentioned seem to be more or less identical. Looking at pics and line drawings it is so hard to tell both apart. I had at first thought they must have been owned by the same company and were just different marketing brands, but do know after some research they are different competing companies. My comment about Hettich being harder to get than Blum is it seem Hettich only go through trade supply companies, who won't deal direct with the public or cabinet makers who in the ACT it seems don't want to help if you only want a hinge and a runner, guess it isn't worth their while, whereas Blum seems to be available on-line and in store from retail shops. Of course not their top of the line products I have noticed. I had gathered it was like Clipsal and HPM in the electrical market. Clipsal refuse to let any non trade shop stock their products, but HPM is universally available in hardware shops and the like. So a surprised Hettich sell direct, as I sent them an email asking what I wanted and where to buy it and they sent me off elsewhere. Yes, I had already tried searching those.
