Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 20, 2014 4:30 pm Hello, this is my very first post, my apologies if this has been asked before. I am a renovation newbie but I need some advice from someone patient enough to explain this to me. My husband thinks I am wasting my time and can't see how we can re-use someone else's kitchen. We have an old kitchen from the 60s in our house and we need to install a new kitchen but don't really have the budget for a lovely new kitchen. Someone has advertised on Gumtree an old kitchen with appliances for $900 which to me looks quite nice. I would be happy with the cupboards and drawers and handles etc. But the oven and sink are in the wrong spots to use in the space we currently have available. Which would mean having a new bench top made I think. I guess my questions are: 1. Can the cabinets be moved around to different spots to fit into a different kitchen? 2. Do others successfully re-home old kitchens or am I going up the wrong path? 3. Is it expensive having a new bench top made? Sorry if this all too simple or vague. I am not too sure where to start. Any advice would be appreciated. Kind regards, MiaMia Re: Re-using kitchen cabinets in new kitchen 2Jan 20, 2014 4:50 pm Just add to the above, the kitchen I would like to buy is a galley style (long line along wall) with a buffet island. So it looks like two parallel lines. I need it to become a all shape instead. Is that possible? We would end up with surplus cabinets Re: Re-using kitchen cabinets in new kitchen 3Jan 21, 2014 8:53 am What are the dimensions of your kitchen space and how would the new kitchen fit in there? Usually, you can re-order the cabinets to fit your needs but you should bear in mind the position of your sink and the oven. Re: Re-using kitchen cabinets in new kitchen 4Jan 21, 2014 9:39 am Each of the individual units will come apart so you'll be able to reconfigure them in different ways but there may still be the odd unit that will need to be cut down to get it to fit. Reducing the size of a unit is possible but cutting down a door is normally not an option - either the cut edge will be ugly or reordering the door in the same colour is likely to be a shade off. The only way around this is, end the kitchen short or have the last unit as open shelves or order doors in a totally different colour so they act as feature. Best of luck with it. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Re-using kitchen cabinets in new kitchen 5Jan 23, 2014 2:20 pm There is a second hand kitchen in our rental, so it definately can be done.
