Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 06, 2013 12:47 am Our house is being built and is close to completion. Our microwave recess has been installed with the base of the microwave at 1563mm. Also, the microwave door will not be able to open 90 degrees because the range hood is in it's way. I've read that the maximum height for the microwave is that it's base needs to be around 1200mm maximum above the floor, and that the door should be able to open 90 degrees without any obstruction. The builders say we need apply for a variation and pay ourselves, but if they have approved the plans and it wasn't in line with the standards, they need to fix it at their own cost. Please can someone help and advise if there is a standard for the installation of microwave ovens. Thank you Patrys Re: Standards for installation of a Microwave 2Dec 06, 2013 7:23 am I can't believe a builder with a plan would have a range hood that prevent another appliance from being used properly - ie the door opening. Options - are there any M/waves that open to the right ? Fridges open both ways. I hate M/waves being put under sinks - I hate bending to look in - so always have ours at eye level - roughly. I'd imagine that the M/wave recess is wherever you asked for it to be put. But - any builder worth his salt would not then do something that would prevent the M/wave from being used properly - ie open fully. Are you saying that the range hood projects out across the recess for the M/wave ? If not, then the M/wave must be able to open - they open on the axis - so to speak - ie need very little room alongside. Did you approve the plans before they started? Our micro is built at 143cm, the turning plate of the micro is 6cm higher. I can not see if something in a container, eg milk, melting butter, is about to overflow, it is far too high, I can't see in. You have to be careful when taking something out of the micro that you don't spill and burn yourself. If I had children in my household who use the micro and I def would not have it that high. I have chosen the micro at that height because whatever is under the micro was more important to me and I knew that the height is not practical. I guess, it depends on what you want to use it for. The height you mention is in my eyes unacceptable, simply dangerous. Change it. Re: Standards for installation of a Microwave 5Jan 03, 2014 8:30 am I prefer putting the middle of the microwave slightly below eye level so you can see what's happening inside. Not many microwave opens the other way, I know Gaggenau has one otherwise you can try one with a drop down door ( Miele, Bosch, Ikea, etc) but check the depth as some of these are quite deep. Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 7003 I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was. Really it's a common sense issue more… 4 5152 2 8643 |
