Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 03, 2013 1:11 am I'm considering renovating my kitchen ... and having a single bowl undermount sink or a butler/belfast sink. I like how clean and tidy a kitchen looks with just a single cut out for the bowl. BUT - I currently have a double bowl with a double drainer - and today I was very, very grateful for that! It's really made me reconsider. I'd love to know what people think about kitchen sinks! For those who have a single bowl sink and no side drainers ... would you do it again?? Re: Kitchen Sinks 3Nov 03, 2013 6:28 am I have a double undermount sink. I didn't want a drainer, as I think they take up too much bench, so I got a drainer that fits over my sink...love it. Can move it and remove it if I want. I even got a chopping board that fits in the sink as well. So to answer your question, yes I'd do it again Re: Kitchen Sinks 4Nov 03, 2013 7:21 am Drainer etched into the benchtop never worked well for us. I wouldn't be doing that again. I like the one big sink idea though. We put everything in the dishwasher except obviously what doesn't fit which are often large pans and baking dishes - a large single sink would be great. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Kitchen Sinks 5Nov 03, 2013 11:11 am We have the double undermount sink. When we do wash dishes in it rather then the dishwasher we have an old school drainer and we sit it on a black plastic tray (think ikea cafe tray) once dishes go away we have nice clean bench space as the rack and tray go in the cupboard under the sink. And by being on the tray the clean dishes can be moved if needed before the dishes are even done. Not sure I'd go a single though as there were times in our rental that had a single sink that I needed two somimcould do different things. But that's personal preference. Spend some time consciously thinking about how you use the kitchen and you'll work out if one sink will work for you... Re: Kitchen Sinks 6Nov 03, 2013 4:18 pm weve gone from a double to single sink and I'm not a fan. our prevous place had double undermount with a freestanding drainboard that could sit ontop of a sink or on the bench and drain into the sink. and removeable when you want the clean look. honestly though it hardly left the bench. Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Kitchen Sinks 7Nov 04, 2013 10:58 am We are a family and did discuss the prospects of having a single sink. Once we took note of how we used our sinks (for a week), we decided against the single sink idea. I am someone who like to rinse things after I have washed them, to get the bubbles off. Also handy when the kids want drinks and you are washing the dishes. Or you find something that wasn't rinsed overly well, part way thru completing the dishes. We have a dishwasher and still NEED a double sink. Re: Kitchen Sinks 8Nov 04, 2013 11:05 am We have a double undermount square sink. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It does not have a draining board, and that was the main thing that I did not want. We have been in our house 3 months and I have not wished once that we had a draining board, but I never wash anything up - everything goes in the dishwasher. Two sinks are very handy and so I am glad I went with two rather than a single sink (we toyed with the idea of the single sink) Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Kitchen Sinks 9Nov 04, 2013 4:21 pm I've never been a drainer person, I am quite happy to put a clean handtowel on the bench and use it to soak up the water for the few things I wash by hand. But I must, must have a double sink! You can get a double Belfast sink though. Ikea even have one. Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. I'm set on having the main sink with dishwasher in the scullery - and… 0 20935 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6634 2 4684 |
