Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 28, 2013 9:48 am Hi guys, We have always liked the plans with 'L' shape meals (rear), kitchen (side) , family (opposite side to kitchen) area. One such plan is here: http://www.urbanedgehomes.com.au/VIC/ka ... plans.aspx I hate to bend and see if stuff is microwaved enough or grilled enough in Oven. So we like the idea of appliance towers which is usually on showcase in display homes. Question we are right now contemplating is which side we should have our appliance tower. Should it be on meals side end or butlers pantry end? So far from my memory I remember in two houses it was on butlers pantry side. Can you shade your thoughts on where it makes sense to have it? My wife thinks its closer to meals area, you can microwave your food and put it on meals straight away so better there. I felt it might give good defined look to kitchen if we have it on meals side, but just wonder what most people would prefer and what are their thoughts about it. Added to that which side you'll have your bin drawers in that case ? Do you usually center the kitchen sink and cook top? Re: Appliance (Oven/Microwave) Tower and other layout querri 2Oct 29, 2013 11:14 pm I would put the appliances at the butlers end so you are not closing in the cabinetry at the dining end. If you put the appliance stack at the dining end, then your cooktop wouldn't be opposite open bench space, which means walking further with hot pans. Cooktops usually work better if they are centre so the rangehood is central (or if you are undermounting, it takes up less cabinetry space to achieve visual symmetry). Kitchen sinks should be to one side, otherwise you will intrude on prep space (or where you spread out your plates, whatever it is you do with your bench space). I personally like large amounts of uninterrupted bench space... but make sure you have enough room either side of your sink for your dirty/clean dishes, however you plan to use the space, plus 10-20cm extra on the closest end. Your sink wants to stay at the end it is, so plates/food can move from bench to dining table smoothly. Bin drawer should go at the butlers end of the sink and dishwasher on the dining side of the sink. Keeps it out of your way but usable when prepping and close at hand when stacking the dishwasher. Also keeps people out of your way if they need the bin and you're in the kitchen. They are out in the main kitchen so they have a great flow around the bench and close to the table. I say have it where you it can have a good flow, like from the fridge to the microwave to the table I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 9745 Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well. Hence the question, just hoping someone would… 2 2061 |
