Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 23, 2013 11:39 pm Hi all The house we are building has a 1.5m kitchen island. This is all that will fit ( I can possibly increase by 15-20cms max). Does anyone have an island this small? I'm worried its going to look odd. All the ones in display homes seem to be so long! Would this fit 3 standard cupboards? Re: 1.5m kitchen island bench? 2Oct 24, 2013 6:38 am Seems a bit short but I imagine you're not having a sink or stove on it so 1.5m of bench space is great. Maybe post a pic of the design of the kitchen. If the proportions are right it might still look fine or some people might be able to give some ideas on how it might work better. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: 1.5m kitchen island bench? 3Oct 24, 2013 8:24 am 1.5m is fine for an island unit as long as it is in proportion with the room and cabinets around it. I just haven't seen it, as there is no display home. I think it will all be good, I'm possibly just envious of the nice long ones lol Re: 1.5m kitchen island bench? 5Oct 24, 2013 10:12 pm If you have room, have you considered a deep island bench instead???? If so are you having stone bench tops? Only one company to my knowledge supplies a slab wide enough to do you island unit without a join. This is a problem with any island unit over about 1250mm deep. Smartstone do 15 standard colours in 1500mm wide slabs! My kitchen company told me that only some companies have the deep stone and I believe I have selected the appropriate range. I am going with Quantum Quartz Luna white. The slabs are 1440 x 3040 x 20mm ( however I am happy if the benchtop is a little smaller than on the plan ).
