We upgraded our promotional 20mm stone bench to 40mm with 40mm shrouds on each end. Initially we got quoted 3k for the upgrade but once the contract came out its came to $4300 ($1,800 to upgrade the benchtop and $2500 for the shrouds.) - Note: Standard range only. My builder charges 900 odd dollars per square meter so the quote was based on the face dimensions of the bench top rather than quoting me for 40mm edging. Am i being ripped off? altogether my galley kitchen will have 3.75m2 of c.s ice snow benchtop (minus the area taken up by the cooktop and sink ) and i have been chargeed $2600.00 for the upgrade - no waterfalls or aprons...so this works out to approx $693.00 pm/2... don't know if this helps... 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: waterfall edge on bench. 43May 23, 2009 7:18 pm SmartPack Gettingthere: An apron is another term for waterfall or return end. This isn't always the case. Some kitchen people and builders don't always use that terminology. Some refer to the end piece as the waterfall and if there is a thicker external edge to the bench itself (say 100mm) they often refer to that as the apron. But some will use the term apron to refer to the waterfall end. It can get confusing. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: waterfall edge on bench. 44May 24, 2009 10:12 am thanks for the replies..! Ice snow (very nice!) is an additional 3k. We are going with CS Jet Black which is part of their standard range with white gloss cupboards. Black and white kitchen here we come. I am pretty sure they quoted without subtracting the sink..! mmm. From the sounds of it, price is a little high but acceptable. She gave back the quote saying that they cant do waterfall benches, i will have to do it myself and ask people about drainage?!! I dont think she understood what i wanted. HAHAHA how funny, i think the sales lady literally thought you wanted a water feature coming out the end of your bench top, hence the drainage lol Wonderland: I think 40mm stone tops with return look great, better than laminate tops. Gettingthere: An apron is another term for waterfall or return end. Yes she was quite new and took the waterfall edge as a literal term . I told her afterwards that I didnt mean actual waterfall, and she finally understood me!! An apron is the edging on the benchtop. I am building the cremorne and we have the 20mm stone benchtops in our package but we want to upgrate to the 80mm....but its only thicker on the edges...they stick an extra bit of stone around the edge...dont know how better to describe it....we have the cat 1 stone....does anyone have any ideas for a rough cost of this...and also for a waterfall i think it is...this is with Porter Davis... thanks Guys.... Re: waterfall edge on bench. 47May 28, 2009 4:15 pm The 80mm edge, that is what an apron is. Waterfall edges are the big chuck of c/s that goes on the end of your benchtop. I'm not sure on 80mm apron pricing, i would image it would be quite abit Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: waterfall edge on bench. 48May 28, 2009 4:20 pm Tolson's Hey All, Im getting a little confused here with shrouds and waterfalls and aprons lol! Tolson, we built the Cremorne last year. Went with cat 1 QQ in Ice and increased our benches to 40mm (that's the thickest PD would do back then) and added the waterfall to the Island. Our cost was $1711. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Have a look at Anne's photos on page 1 of this thread. The stone at the front is 20mm (?) and the back has a 100mm apron. My documents doesn't state which joint I will be having. I always thought there were just one joint and it's the mitre joints which you see in the display houses. Now I'm scared that I might get the butt joints. So my question is for those who has the waterfall edge, when you requested to have the waterfall edge did you have to advise them what joint you wanted eg. Mitred joint?? Was there any mention of what joint you will be having in your paper work? Thanks in advance. Re: waterfall edge on bench. 50Dec 28, 2009 4:00 pm Hi... We got the mitred joint, but I didn't think about it to be honest. It wasn't mentioned on our paperwork either. Is it too late to get it written in the paperwork for you? Cheers C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: waterfall edge on bench. 51Dec 29, 2009 11:29 am Polo, I know you're using the same builder as myself, so I thought I'd answer your question about the difference between butt joints and mitred joints. I asked (and paid the upgrade) for a waterfall bench end, but what I got was not what I expected. This is a photo of what they installed into my kitchen. I had to draw them a diagram of what a mitred edge should look like and emailed it to my SS. But good news... they've ripped it all out and will replace the entire benchtop early in the new year. Hopefully this time it's a proper waterfall bench end with a mitred edge this time My advice - call the office when they reopen and clarify what they've ordered for your kitchen. It could save a lot of heartache later on! The builder is closed at the moment so will give them a call when they re-open. Hi Pharley - thanks for the reply and pic, it's great that they are going to fix it. Will definitely give them a call when they re-open. Did you mention or got it written down at the beginning that you wanted it to be mitred joints? I just hope they give us the mitred joints. Re: waterfall edge on bench. 53Jan 10, 2010 8:42 pm Hey Polo, Well, the replacement benchtop is installed. It's now got a mitred joint and DiamondGloss edging. Here's the pic below... I checked my original contract, and it just stated a "waterfall bench end". So if your contract has similar wording, you may want to contact the builder and make sure they use a mitred joint, because they might install a bench similar to my first one, which looked crap Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: waterfall edge on bench. 54Jan 14, 2010 12:45 pm Hi Pharley, Thanks for your assistance and the pics, your benchtop looks much better than before and looks good. I am also having the pure mineralstone diamond gloss. I've been told it can't be done. I am meeting with the builder on Monday so he can explain to me why it can't be done and then he would also like me to see the cabinet maker so he can explain to me why it can't be done. I am also having a 60mm apron, I'm not sure if this is the reason? Does anyone know??? I would really like information before I meet with them.
