Hi Homeoner’s,
We are currently looking into replacing our ~7 year old laminex benchtops due to a small re-jig of our kitchen/dining/living area. Basically, we have one long bench that we want to replace to turn into a breakfast bar, and due to a combination of other small factors, decided to just replace the tops in the entire kitchen.
The current tops are bullnose/rolled edge. At the time we were replacing old square laminex from the 70’s (bright orange), and we couldn’t wait to go for the more modern bullnose profile… D’oh, seems we missed the changing tide of the trends there – feels like we were the last people in Australia to install rounded benchtops, as everything has since gone back more to the square profiles!
Anyways, two main things I’m after confirmation on:
1 – not wanting to misread future trends (short-term,
anyway) is a square profile the way to go? I certainly think it’s the more modern, current look right here and now
2 – in the laminex range, there seems to be a number of variations on “square finish” benchtops, with different methods of finishing the edging. What should I be looking for in my new benchtops (I already have a competitive quote ready to go, now I’m just double checking all the details before committing!). I'm pretty keen on a truly square finish, in something with the look of Caesar stone.
Another one, and I might start a new thread for this query so it doesn’t get lost, but does anyone know much about doing a waterfall end in laminex? I know this is often done with stone products, and I like the look, but not sure how well it would translate in a laminate finish? Further, we have a U shaped kitchen, and most pictures I’ve seen of waterfall’s are on a free-standing island bench, but I don’t see any reason it couldn’t be done. Opinions welcomed!
Cheers,
Damien
