Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 31, 2013 7:27 pm hi guys, I am having a 60mm stone benchtop on my island bench, and will be putting dishwasher under it. given that the bench height is 900mm, and my stone is 60mm and that i am having solid potted gum on concrete slab (18mm plus 10mm underlay), meaning i am only left with 812mm space for my dishwasher. when browsing for the dishwasher, most of them are 850-880mm height. does that mean I cannot get a decent dishwasher for my island bench?? Re: dishwasher height problem!!! 2Aug 31, 2013 7:37 pm There may be a few options 1. The benchtop will not be 60mm thick all the way through, just on the face, so you will have a further 40mm under the lip of your bench. You might be able to find a dishwasher where the door doesn't go all the way to the top. 2. You could leave out the floor and underlay under the dishwasher. They normally come with an adjustable kick plate so again you've got a bit of space there. 3. If its not too late consider a 1000mm high bench, your sink is likely to be here and given the sink is essentially below the height of the bench, it means you be bending down as much. Best of luck with it http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: dishwasher height problem!!! 3Aug 31, 2013 8:55 pm Some dishwashers you can take the tops off to help make them fit. Standard kitchen heights are now between 900-920mm! I have done a few a 950mm and one at 1000mm high! As has been suggested you could leave the flooring out from under the dishwasher which will give you another 20-30mm. Why such a thick top? Maybe consider having the concrete slightly thinner? Miele got many dishwashers with a min height of 81cm, in fact all models exempt the XXL models. Re: dishwasher height problem!!! 6Sep 04, 2013 9:42 pm I have a Bosch SMU68M05AU (now sold as SMU6815AU) which has an advertised minimum height 815mm so very close to what you need. It has a minimum height as it is integrated and adjustable. With these the important issue is where the bottom of the dishwasher sits relative to adjacent doors as they are designed to sit level. This model is 715mm from the top to the bottom of the door. In my case my doors are 737mm so I have a small filler above the dishwasher, but the bottom is level with adjacent cupboards so looks pretty good with nice clean lines. It also requires a kick board matching the rest of the kitchen. Dishwashers have adjustable legs! All you do is wind the legs back into the dishwasher and then it comes out easily! This is the most common way of doing it (and least expensive mind you!) Re: dishwasher height problem!!! 10Sep 05, 2013 4:10 pm My dishwasher sits under the drainage board part of the sink and it was originally too high and was interfering with the clips that hold the sink in place. I had the top taken off the dishwasher (which, as far as I know, is really only there to make the dishwasher look prettier if it is not under a bench) and ended up with maybe 4 centrimetres more clearance. Problem solved Re: dishwasher height problem!!! 11Sep 05, 2013 4:40 pm Evelin CEK, didn't know that it is done this way. we were told dishwasher should be on same level as kitchen floor. Who told you that? Other than water issues if you have a leak there is no reason it has to be! If you have enough height then yes keep it on the same level, BUT the OP has height issues because of the thickness of there bench tops and having the dishwasher sit a little lower is a good option. Whatever dishwasher you get still needs to fit between bottom of bench and finished floor height before it can drop into an area without flooring. So no advantage in leaving floor out in dishwasher recess. When we did it the floor in the dishwasher area was 40mm lower, add that to the 40-60mm we had at the top (behind the stone turn down at the front) this allowed us to put the bottom of the dishwasher in first and then stand it up.
