Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 21, 2013 10:20 pm After some advice before we meet our SS tomorrow morning so that we know where we stand. I have just measured up our kitchen cabinets and it seems that our 3000mm long section of cupboards is 35mm short. This was initially longer but we had to shorten it to 3000mm as we didn't want a join in the stone benchtop. So not happy with a loss of 35mm. The island bench is approx 20mm too far over to the right of the plans which means it wont line up with the bulkhead above it or the wall which it is accross from (This is the wall that just randomly pokes up from the bottom of the plan, we are adding a laminate pantry door later to line up with the cabinets). It also wont line up on the other end with the cabinets against the wall but currently looks fine because those cabinets are 35mm too short... Does anyone know the tolerance for these? Also a random question, is the gas connection point for an oven supposed to be behind the oven or in the cupboard next to it? Noticed ours is in the cupboard next to it which is rather inconvenient for what we planned in there but it isn't on the plans. Thanks for any help! http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/xxkat86xx/kitchenplans_zps89a78240.jpg http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/xxkat86xx/kbh1_zpsc80fadaf.jpg Haven't got any decent pics of the cabinets in place Re: Tolerance for cabinet dimensions and placement 2Aug 21, 2013 10:46 pm There is no mandated tolerance. If your not happy with the placement of the cabinets or the supposed loss of 35mm talk to the builder. As for the gas connection the tap (silly board won't let me use the proper word for it that that rhymes with dock) needs to be accessible, so makes sense to be in an adjacent cabinet rather than hidden behind the oven. You need to be able to shut it off if need be. Out of interest why are you having a gas oven? Most unusual in this day and age, cooktops are about the only place you really see gas and electric ovens are pretty much the norm. Re: Tolerance for cabinet dimensions and placement 3Aug 21, 2013 10:58 pm hahaha you are 100% correct!! the gas is for the stove not the oven Thanks for answering We could probably deal with the length of the oven side as long as it lines up with the island. Will have to discuss with the cabinet maker we have that is doing the pantry door though as this opening will now be that bit wider... I feel as though 20mm as small as it is would be noticable as it wouldn't line up with the ceiling or the wall Re: Tolerance for cabinet dimensions and placement 4Aug 21, 2013 11:00 pm Is the bench top meant to 3m long or the cabinets? They may just have allowed some over hang of the benchtop which is a good thing. The other being 20mm off, maybe they can explain why and/or shift it. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Tolerance for cabinet dimensions and placement 5Aug 21, 2013 11:09 pm The island bench has 40mm overhang each end but the cabinets against the wall should have no overhang. This is how the plans are and we can't have overhang on the 3m oven section as we are installing cabinets next to them so the end of the bench needs to be flush with the edge of the cabinet. Re: Tolerance for cabinet dimensions and placement 6Aug 22, 2013 1:12 am Can't help with cabinets but out gas stuff is behind the draw the the left of our oven, includes the PowerPoint to light the cooktop. They had to make our top draw shallower then expected to compensate, would have been nice to be told that! i inspect..there is no construction tolerance or building tolerances.
